Castellanos: Time to rally around Trump, ‘too late to ask mommy to step in and rewrite rules’
Washington Post ^ | March 2, 2016 | by Tom Hamburger and Matea Gold

Even as major Republican donors coalesced Wednesday around a last-ditch effort to halt Donald Trump's march toward the GOP presidential nomination, resignation was setting in among some onetime Trump critics.

"It is too late," Republican media strategist Alex Castellanos, who had unsuccessfully urged top GOP contributors to back an anti-Trump campaign earlier in the cycle, wrote in an email. He went on:

"If our self-indulgent Republican party establishment had really wanted to prevent a takeover of the GOP, they should not have gorged on political power while they failed to do anything to prevent the decline of the country. Our leaders could have led. They could have done more than say 'no' to Democrats while offering no alternative."

"They should have stood up for the change Donald Trump is bringing now but they didn't."

Now, Trump has earned the nomination. He won it, fair and square and we should respect that. Donald Trump whipped the establishment and it is too late for the limp GOP establishment to ask their mommy to step in and rewrite the rules because they were humiliated for their impotence.

"If Trump is going to be our nominee, as I believe he is, it is our mission to support Trump and make him the best nominee and president possible."

Ted Cruz has more conservatism in his bigtoe than Donald Trump does in bloated body.

So take your Trumpophile snark and BIOYA.

Our leaders could have led. They could have done more than say 'no' to Democrats...

They didn't even do that...

The only ones who back the GOPee dirty tricks are those who actually want Hildebeast to be the next Prez.

Backing cRuz or the Rube will also accomplish the above.

No thanks, GOPee. We’ve had quite enough of your PAC paid cesspool.

Yes....going along with the "Romney/GOPee dirty tricks to topple Trump" plan is really 'conservative'.

No thanks. Masks are completely off.

The GOPee handshake seen 'round the world....

It’s all about the amnesty.

For decades both parties have been flooding the country with foreigners.
The citizens have wanted it stopped, but have been blocked by both parties.
This election we finally have a champion.
The establishment wants to deny the citizens the opportunity to retain the rule of law and our country.

The inundation of illegal aliens was not accidental or from ineptitude, this was intentional.

Are you kidding?

Cruz’s delegate count consists mostly of delegates from his home state. Outside of that, he has barely more than Rubio.

If Cruz was where Trump is, you would say the same.

Unforunately I did, but I also vowed at that time it would be the last time. I would ever vote for a liberal in conservative clothing. I intend to honor that self pledge.

Will be the first time since 1976 that I abstain.

They could have done more than say 'no' to Democrats while offering no alternative.

I love it when Republican strategists spew Democrat talking points.

I agree with that point. Not sure if I’ll vote for him or not - a lot depends on what he does during the general election campaign. But if I don’t, it’d really be a matter of conscience and I would not work to see him lose. Just...not vote.

Do whatever you like. But if your a conservative you would be honoring your priciples if you voted for Cruz.

What a pantload of disingenuous BS. The GOPe are giving Trump a wet kiss because the nuclear bombing didn’t work.

Romney will come out tomorrow blowing kisses to Trump. Book it.

The GOP know we are on to their backstabbing game and they are overcompensating big time. Meanwhile, behind the scenes an avalanche of negative ads will hit Trump.

Based upon my years of campaign season experience at FreeRepublic I can tell you that very shortly there will come a time where the website owner will proclaim now is the moment to put away our differences and get behind the Republican nominee.

Anyone who rejects that clarion call will vanish immediately for being a disruptor. Shuffled out the door faster than a Black Lives Matter protestor at a Hillary campaign stop.

Since 1998, I've never seen that *not* happen here. Just so you know.

Yep. THis is a GOPe smokescreens from several sources today. Blowing kisses to Trump. LOL. They realized they over played their hand with the disgusting attacks on Trump. Now they are getting even more devious because they know that we are not listening to them and Trump is about to get carpet bombed with negative ads anyway.

Cruz is not eligible to run for president. He should give the Canadian presidency a try. He might win. He’s also an amnesty pimp, just like his cousin little marco.

You said...
“Good for some, but this is one conservative who will not vote for a liberal be they Democrat OR Republican.”

Same here.

Trump is the most liberal candidate on the GOP side in this primary. And that includes Jeb
