have told him that he has until the Florida primary on March 15th to show some leg. If he cannot win his home state primary, it will be very hard to continue to justify his campaign. At that point, I think it is abundantly clear that Mitt Romney is waiting in the wings.”
Stone continued:
Notice how Romney is suddenly tweeting all the anti-Trump tweets? So, he’s been quiet for months and now he’s suddenly carping about Trump’s tax returns. Now he’s carping about this phony story about David Duke, who Trump has no truck with whatsoever. I think Mitt gets into those late primaries … in an effort to soak up votes. The purpose here is not to defeat Trump overall. It’s just to stall him on the first ballot.
“Here’s what they say,” said Stone, when asked to describe the reaction of powerful Republicans, “we have to stall this guy short on the first ballot. We’ve got to stall him just short of the magic numbers.”
He goes on to point out that with delegates free to vote as they want after the first ballot and the establishment picking delegates in many states, such as New York for example, Trump could conceivably lose as many as 100 votes on a second ballot, opening the door for Romney, or another challenger.

Last election's loser will do nothing but further piss off the people who are piling up behind this landslide.
I mean seriesly (sic), a proven second stringer against Trump? What is this, an election or an afternoon at the Roman Coliseum? Is the GOPe really this desperate? If this is all they have left, they may as well admit that they have lost the support of the Party, which is now partying at Trump's place.
They deserve whatever back splash they get, and it will be a career-ender for an entire political generation of RINO "Establishment" weenies. And GOOD RIDDANCE.
“Id vote for Putin before I voted Romney again.”
Well, that would certainly put a line through ISIS as a concern.
LOL!
It still appears Rubio will lose his own state.
Romney would not be installed to win, but to prevent a winner and throw it to the convention.
Is that what you had proposed?

The problem with their calculation is that it will so anger Trump that he will go third party.
He’ll pick a VP equally likely to hurt Hillary, and CRUCIAL for a 3rd party run, win a REAL majority of the electors.
They have a better chance putting their money on Kasich. At least with him there is a chance to take Ohio.
Does the GOPe have any idea JUST HOW DESPISED Romney is?
I doubt it...after all the GOPe seems to have no idea JUST HOW DESPISED they are.
I think this whole premise is a stretch. If it does happen I will guess that Romney wouldn’t crack 25% in a three way race outside of Utah. In my pyramid of pain I would rather have him as President than Rubio. At least Romney knows how to pay off his credit card.
“Romney would not be installed to win, but to prevent a winner and throw it to the convention.”
I see some kind of chicanery to insert Romney as the nominee at the convention. Otherwise, yes, he could only serve as a spoiler if he stalks out into the race at this late date.
I think the GOPe is so depraved they would consider Romney as a spoiler to be a win. Putting Cruz in as VP would mollify a plurality of conservatives who will still sit up and beg for biscuits.

Just what we need. Another squishy centrist republican that will lose.
They threw Quayle in with Bush the First to mollify the conservatives, and then spent the next 4 years destroying him.
Cruz should beware who he supports.
I agree he should be wary, but I don’t think he is a sharp as he is proclaimed to be. He may or may not be intelligent - although a 150 IQ in law school is middling - but he most certainly is not wise. Look at how much that trifling Iowa edge has cost his campaign.
I can’t warm to the man at all, but watching this trainwreck has been painful.
I supported Cruz. Sent him hundreds of dollars, not because of his frequent hounding for more money, but because I thought he was most conservative.
A couple of things happened, and I could detail them, but I don’t want to go down the list again right now.
Despite my switching to Trump, I would vote for Cruz in a heartbeat, even with all my misgivings. He is far better than any of the other also rans out there.
We Trump fans like to play to win. We don’t like to show our cards, but we also know that Cruz is the backup compared to anyone else in the race.
I could vote for him if he is down ticket to Trump or is the candidate. We shall see. I think the party would very reluctantly support Cruz over Trump, if Rubio folds which is probable.
Makes perfect sense for the "OUT OF TOUCH" Establishment.
Run the guy who LOST the last election because of his lack of aggressiveness.
Wheel out Mittens "Wylie E. Coyote" Romney. I'd say it's time for a little comedy relief.
The GOPe has had one too many cocktails and at this point, I'm happy to say, DO NOT KNOW $HIT FROM LEAN MEAT about WINNING ELECTIONS.
the whole David Duke KKK bit reminds me of the “ethnic purity” episode in Jimmy Carter’s ‘76 race.
The matter was brought up right before the southern primaries .... helping Carter, then he repudiated the whole thing as the campaign moved North. It was strategery.
What I concluded from tonite:
-Trump said nice things about Planned Parenthood
-Rubio talked about the KKK and his pick up truck
-Cruz cannot get evangelicals to vote for him
