Cruz must win Texas. Otherwise it's over

If Cruz can't come really close to 50% support in Texas, he should hang it up, take a real long vacation with the wife and kids. Ponder how he got suckered in to that nasty campaign and coming on so mean to Trump after drafting off him all that time. He should also get what his proof of US citizenship is out there for us to see, and settle once and for all his eligibility issue.

Most of us didn't dislike Cruz when the campaign started. But, mygosh, he got advice from others, all of it bad. He would've been better served by a personality coach to help him effectively bring others over to his views.

So Cruz shows up with 25% of the delegates to Donald’s 45%, and you think that’s somehow a winning hand?

I like Cruz as much as the next guy, but he’d have to throw in for Donald at that point.

Cruz wouldn’t be the nominee. But its possible someone else, like Rubio, could be. I could see Cruz releasing his delegates to Rubio instead of Trump.

He definitely needs to continue regardless.

We need to have a conservative at the convention.

Trump is not conservative.

I think Rubio will give in to Cruz.

Politically speaking, the young Cruz cannot afford to be that disrespectful to such a large swath of voters. He will be President someday. He knows it. This is either the winning year or a test run, a la Reagan 1976.

Cruz expects to win outright. Some day. Making every Trump supporter willing to shoot him dead is not the way to become President 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 years from now.

Trump is not a conservative

He's a patriot and nationalist who can lead a movement. That has to be our first priority.

AFAIK, releasing delegates is subject to each state’s rules, and can’t simply be ‘given’ to another candidate by a candidate who drops out.

He should also get what his proof of US citizenship is out there for us to see, and settle once and for all his eligibility issue.

There are court challenges in 4 States (Ill, NY, TX and PA) asserting that Cruz is not a NBC. Cruz has ask the courts to dismiss the cases. He does not want it heard or settled by the courts.

Rubio is surging since the debate, mostly at Trump’s expense, but also from Cruz somewhat. I expect that may continue as the press he’s getting for his attacks, plus the Trump U. ads from his PAC begin to trickle into the polls. Trump could be below 40 again by the weekend.

Maybe it could be a top priority on an internet board not dedicated to conservative values and political priorities?

I think the Constitution needs to be our first priority.

I think failing to do that jeopardizes the liberties of everyone.

I don’t Trust Trump to decide what is and is not America?

I prefer to rely on the specifications and rule of law delineated in the Constitution.

How does that sit with you and your Trump friends?

Cruz has disrespected appointed leaders throughout his political career and Won!

I see no reason why disrespecting the great white RINO that is Trump would be another bad trophy to put on his wall next to Dewhurst, Boehner and McConnell.

The idea that Trump supporters are “willing to shoot him dead” speaks to the true underlying pathology of trump supporters.

I think the polls have Cruz at 37%. I will be shocked if he gets 50%. Trump should walk away with about 76 delegates from TX. Not a bad haul.

It’s a pathology, I agree. But pathology is also reality.

Trumpians would definitely go vote Hillary to stick it to whoever “won” a brokered convention.

So, the reality (IMHO) is a Trump plurality must be considered a win by all involved. Or the victory will be surely pyrrhic.

I see that strong possibility and I do not begrudge people observing that.

I do however think everyone on FR should argue sincerely for the candidate they think best and NOT be drawn into supporting people based on some allegation of inevitablitliy.

I also think the criteria should be derived here on the basis of conservatism.

"I also think the criteria should be derived here on the basis of conservatism."

I'm a verifiable Cruz guy. But I'll make you a straight-up conservative argument for Trump!

The primary obstacle to conservatism in America is the RINO / GOPe / Leftist component of the Republican Party. They, more than honest Democrats, block the ability of actual conservatism to be implemented.

Before we can even locate a far away liberal Democrat to engage, we have to fight through our nearby identically liberal Republicans.

Therefore, the #1 conservative priority until completed must be the defeat of the Republican Wing of the leftist Uniparty of America.

Cruz can best defeat the Uniparty with actual Conservatism.

But Trump can also defeat the Uniparty with Populism.

I prefer the former. I can completely settle for the latter because it accomplishes a conservative's #1 priority:

DEATH TO THE UNIPARTY!
