Donald Trump has steamrolled toward the Republican nomination by lambasting all things political establishment, and now that establishment thinks it can convince their insult-wielding front-runner he needs them.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus has begun stating in private meetings that the party has sway over its at times unwelcome front-runner because it has tools Trump will need to use to win a general election -- voter data and field, digital and media operations that a nominee typically inherits from the party infrastructure.

Dangling access to these resources, Priebus thinks he can help steer Trump toward partywide policy goals and away from the inflammatory rhetoric that Republican officials see as divisive and dangerous, especially outside of the primary, according to two Republican sources who have spoken with the RNC chairman. ...

This is all about their need of him. The more they make such utterances, the more they show it.

Reince negotiating with Trump. This sounds like a lot of fun. If Reince is married, his wife better lock down their personal assets since Reince is likely to lose everything he owns before he knows what happened.

Sally Priebus (L) is not unattractive, but she would have a lot to compete with versus Melania.

Trump would make blackmail public and would use it to get even more VOTERS.

Is it blackmail or simply trying to cut a deal?

Realistically, both Trump and the party apparatus are going to have to work together (by which I don't mean Trump should go wobbly).

Bull and Baloney. It is a simple matter to access voting records and anyone can do it.(As a precinct captain, I’ve done it.) R.P. and RNC can shove it. They have NO strings with which to control Trump AND THEY KNOW IT!

Those precious data lists are the R- party- bosses’ Guarantee of Victory. (Just like they were in 2008 and 2012). Trump needs them like he needs your “spare change” for lunch. ((The R party boss machine is dead as a dodo if this and Jeb!’s campaign is all they got-—)

Yes, precisely. Their livelihoods depend on getting inside the inner circle of the nominee.

But he does not need them, hence their desperation.

Reagan didn’t eschew the support of the party in the general election.

I doubt it

Trump needs the GOP like a fish needs a bicycle.

The should be begging HIM to help them

Carl Paladino should have won NY and booted Cuomo in the a$$ but the stupid party fumbled his campaign AFTER he kicked little ricky lazio’s a$$ by %60 to 40%

Not sure that makes sense.

Maybe Trump will need GOP, but the GOP will want to nominee to win.

Plus, I wouldnt be surprised if Trump once again flips on positions in the general election on his own. Everything he says has a near expiration date.

He will say
“I never said that”
“I have NO idea what she is talking about”
“She is lying”

The GOP tried to take him down until they realized the VOTERS liked him and disposed them.
