"Ted Cruz's campaign is over," and it ended after Donald Trump beat him among evangelicals in South Carolina on Saturday, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough declared Tuesday morning.
"It ended in South Carolina when Donald Trump beat Ted Cruz among evangelicals after coming out in support of Planned Parenthood," the former lawmaker said on his "Morning Joe" talk show.
"Ted Cruz's campaign is over. Mark it down. He is not going to win the nomination. He may win Texas. It's over."
It wasn't just the South Carolina race that ended the Texas senator's campaign for the GOP presidential nomination, said Scarborough, but other incidents as well, including his decision on Monday to fire national spokesman Rick Tyler, who made a social media post of a video claiming that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio suggested to a Cruz staffer who was reading the Bible there "aren't many answers in it."

In defense of Ted, I know I know...
This guy’s comments confirm he needed to go.
The rapidity with which he turned on Cruz, clearly shows he’s a bad egg.
A good egg would have said, “If this is what Ted needs to do, I support him doing it. After all, I want him elected.”
These campaign workers are a dime a dozen, but they sure charge more than that.
What don’t you understand about you’re being a hypocritical hack?
It’s a simple proposition: show me where YOU lambasted trump for his lies. THEN you will have the moral high ground to throw stones at others. Until then You’re just another hypocritical hack
What is your problem?? Do you think Ted hasn’t lied and engaged in status quo gutter politics with Jeff Roe?
Don Trump - The favorite in Open Primaries!
When it comes down to a Democrat Establishment liberal vs liberal Don Trump in the General, which lib will the Democrats vote for?
I wish your willful dumbness only harmed you. The rest of us will be harmed by your willful ignorance.
Why do you have such a great need to make it about me? It’s not about me. It’s about Ted’s lies.
The latest Texas poll has Cruz at 37 and Trump at 29 although the poll was done with Bush still in the mix so that changes things and the margin of error was 3.5%. Could be very very close.
Cruz’s communications guy who he “fired” took the bullet for the boss. Bosses like that expect that. Someone had to be the fall guy. All the fired guy was doing was following orders and the organizational culture and probably the direct orders from Cruz. So afterwards, when this dirty trick was caught (wonder how many HAVEN’T been caught, since we know of about 20 by now, dirty tricks, and epic lies) someone had to fall on his sword-—certainly not the boss. But rather someone had to be the patsy. The dude wasn’t really fired or asked to resign. Get a grip.
No I think you’re a hypocritical hack who doesn’t have the integrity to admit that when you go from thread to thread to thread bashing one candidate for lying when your candidate is also guilty of the same thing you say nothing. That makes you a hypocrite. At least man up and admit that you don’t say anything about trumps transgressions because you don’t have the integrity to do so....or show where you did..or STFU about Cruz’ lies because you don’t have the moral high ground...you’ve abdicated it. It’s pretty frickin simple, bub.
Ok. so he was not fired. He was thrown under the bus because the boss screwed up this from the most ethical evangelical of them all!
Technically, he asked him to resign, which is how you handle firing top management. Semantical games. Only the “little people” get fired ;)
Well you are entitled to an opinion.
Oh and nice ad hominems! Always a winning tactic.
In the statement where Cruz talked about firing the guy for spreading a lie about Rubio, he also said “Even if it was true” we still shouldn’t run a campaign like that.
What does that mean? Sounds to me like he wasn’t convinced Tyler actually told a lie. That it’s possible, as insinuated by Cruz, Rubio really did say there are no answers in the Bible.
I simply cannot handle any more “fair and balanced”. Just watched Juan go ballistic about Republicans being racist on Hannity.
Do you really watch MSNBC? I thought that would be much worse.
Thank you. : )
Look I am a rock solid conservative probably before you were born. Fox has gone real bad free trade globalist. Joe Scarborough was a conservative Florida Congressman. He is sitting there with horrible ratings— He sees an opening in the line of scrimmage with Fox and blows through it for a huge first down. The rest of them ( except for Maddow) aren’t worth a crap. YOU KNOW FOX IS NOT FAIR!! Take it from me— MSNBC IS FAIR!!
P Trump and VP Cruz. That is a good option and much better than anything from the Democrats. Maybe the VP should attract female and minority voters. I think Carley or Condoleezza Rice would be good VPs.
Breaking "CRUZ CAMPAIGN STAFFER SAYS CAMPAIGN IS DONE "
A Ted Cruz campaign staffer today told CNN the campaign is done. "His Campaign is done."
"The Cruz campaign has to focus on getting basic campaign techniques right," said a Republican operative who works for the presidential campaign, who asked not to be identified. "I don?t think Cruz can win the nomination at this point. I think his campaign is done."
Cruz took a huge blow on Saturday after he could not win a single county in South Carolina, a state with an enormous evangelical vote.
When your subordinate or appointee screws up, you are responsible.
You can delegate authority but you can NOT delegate responsibility.
An axiom in the military and in business.
Of course in government and politics, it is ignored, denied, etc.
Senator Cruz has spent most of his career around government, so it doesn’t seem to come to him naturally.
He has people in his campaign that are saboteurs. Thats the problem.
