Rubio Is Attacking The Wrong Opponent (Slate Saddened, Deeply Saddened)
Slate ^ | 02/22/2016 | Jamelle Bouie

The largest obstacle, the force that’s dominated the race for months, stretching back to last summer, is Donald Trump.

If we’re judging by votes and victories, Trump is the front-runner for the nomination. He holds the most wins (New Hampshire, South Carolina, and probably Nevada), he holds the most delegates, and he has the broadest coalition. As the Atlantic’s Ronald Brownstein shows in his analysis of the vote in South Carolina, Trump won 33 percent of independents and 32 percent of self-identified Republicans. He carried 33 percent of evangelicals and 42 percent of voters without a college degree. The same goes for his ideological coalition, which was almost evenly split between very conservative voters, somewhat conservative voters, and moderates. Trump stands from a position of strength. He holds the keys to the nomination.

But Rubio isn’t going after Trump, his chief competitor. He’s going after Ted Cruz, knocking the Texas senator for running a “dishonest campaign.” Likewise, Cruz clearly sees Rubio as his chief competitor, attacking his Florida colleague from the right on immigration and portraying him as a devoted ally of President Obama.

Slate is saddened, deeply saddened!

Designated Loser Boobio won't become the GOP nominee.

Its official: y'all have heard it straight from the liberal's horse mouth.

Now its panic time in the Uniparty.

There’s no reason to vote for Boobio or Cruz - they’re the clowns in this race.

They will never dethrone Trump.

Rubio and Cruz are going after each other for an obvious reason. There is not going to be a ticket of two relatively young first term US Senators who are Cuban American. Not being ready would become a campaign issue. Then there's the other situation. The Republican elite could use the Natural Born situation against both of them, and you'd only have Kasich left standing, and they could go Kasich + resurrect someone who's dropped out. (they've suspended, not ended, their campaigns).

Kasich is the "Plan B". Our only path to ending the tyranny of a "business as usual" nominee is for Trump to get the nomination.

If there’s a brokered convention, Jeb or Mittens come to mind.

I think in that case they’d draft Mittens as the compromise candidate acceptable to all party factions.

If the GOP elite has it their way, they will never nominate Trump or Cruz.

Ain’t gonna happen.

They’ll take him down like a beetle killed pine, just as soon as the Trumpettes and Rubio get rid of Cruz (if they can). Then the GO Pee wins!

Slate desperately wants Rubio to be their get-Trump stalking horse. They know if Trump can be taken out, both Cruz and Rubio are easy pickins for the enemedia.

Either Boobio or Cruz would spend more time in court fending off Natural Born lawsuits than on the campaign trail.

And if they’re ruled ineligible, Hillary couldn’t be happier.

They are trying to make it more complicated than it really is. If Trump does not go to the convention with 1,237 delegates then Rubio wants to be a power broker and swing his delegates to donnie for the VP slot. Simple. Rubio has nothing to go home to. No senate job. No successful money making law firm. No K Street job since they won’t hire a one term part time senator that is an election loser.

He knows he cannot win so he is going all in for the VP slot.

Even though Trump is dominating, he’s still not a done deal.

This may be the first election in since 1980 where no one or no group is in control. Not the Uniparty, not the powers-that-be, not Trump, not Hillary, not even Rubio, despite your excellent analysis of what he may be doing.

I have the feeling no one knows for certain what exactly the heck they’re doing this election cycle.

That’s why it’s such an exciting to watch.

you’re the clown of the board so it works out perfect :)

keep insulting the cruz conservatives because your blue dog dems are such a dependable bunch that trump is up 15 over Hillary.

where have you creatures come from the past few months?

do you think strategy or just babble forever?

trump loses badly against cruz and Rubio alone, like I said.

trump loses by a few to Hillary. if he had dem votes, he’d be up 10

you clowns are gonna be patting yourselves on the back all the way to a loss.

Cruz is doing pretty well for a first term senator. clown?

wash your own makeup off.

It is exciting on both the republican and democrat contests.
Will Hillary get indicted? Will Joe jump in and if he does how will they get rid of Bernie?

Will trump get 1,237? If not who does he kiss up with, rubio or Cruz or will we get Romney MKII. Or will the RNC can trump and slip Rubio into the #1 slot?

Over on the FR Caucus thread, 72% of us voted for Trump.

Cruz received 25%.

But that makes us liberal, that we don’t waste votes on the also-rans.

I have a feeling NV Caucus voters today will agree voting for the two other guys who can’t win makes no sense.

here’s a peace pipe. with a little extra kick :)

i’ll vote for trump in the generals

cruz can’t win this thing. Why are you ignoring Rubio plus bush votes plus Kasich votes? you do so at your own peril.

Trump should start targeting Rubio.

There’s nothing left to gain targeting Cruz.

except animosity

set emotions aside for ONE second, and think about what i’m saying regarding Rubio.

Cruz/Trump - their voters are closest aligned so if Cruz is out his votes go to Trump

why do you think it will be different with Rubio/bush/Kasich.

Best if Trump and Cruz make a deal and end this thing now.

Trump plus Cruz puts trump at 50, Rubio plus the rinos dropping out puts him in the 40s.

if you think the RINOs gave up, you’re in for a shock.

Rubio is a threat, and a big one. No one is seeing it.
