Department of Veterans Affairs leaders have shuffled nearly 100 hospital administrators to three or more cities each in the last eight years, often to deal with underperforming directors whom they could not fire, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis.
The list of VA employees with unusual workplace moving patterns includes infamous names like Diana Rubens, who was a D.C. based administrator until she created a job for herself with less work and the same $181,000 salary near her family in Philadelphia. Then she billed VA for nearly $300,000 in relocation costs.
It also provides a roadmap for a costly trail of chaos left by less well-known VA hospital executives on a management merry-go-round that continually shifts poor performers and problem employees to different jobs and locations in the hope of getting different outcomes.
Looking at directorsâ past inability to hold a job for long might have even been an indicator of the systemâs deadliest scandal, wait-time manipulation in Phoenix. When she arrived there in 2012, its now-fired director, Sharon Helman, had worked at VA facilities in four cities in five years. The Phoenix second-in-command had worked in three.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
V A ping.
Solution: Eliminate all funds to the VA, then provide vouchers for full medical coverage to the veterans to use at facilities they choose.
I agree.
My VA clinic and hospital do outstanding work; why should we vets here have to go elsewhere when we are satisfied with our VA care?
Better solution:
It all boils down to local management, get COMPETENT management into these VA facilities that suck and where our Vets need it most.
Great care starts with great leadership/management.
It is a systemic problem.
It will take a systemic solution.
The first place to look? The selection process. How could they select so many bad people?
I guarantee you that they aren’t going to like the truth.
“My VA clinic and hospital do outstanding work; why should we vets here have to go elsewhere when we are satisfied with our VA care?”
If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. Just take your voucher the VA clinic you like. Same for education.
Ben Carson isn’t a good choice for President, but the next President should put him in charge of the VA or HHS.
They are pathetic. The doctors are good. So are the nurses. God knows they try. But the administration is horrible.
What losers and frauds! These degenerate incompetents should be not only fired but exiled for their inhumanity to the Veterans who rely on the VA for their health care. If you know them...ridicule and shame them.
But if Veterans get to choose and you find yourself alone in a big pretty building...Don't blame this old 2 tour crew-chief/door gunner...Blame management!... (Don't get me wrong...I'm thankful for the help I get...just saying)
I was an Avionics guy in Nam but also did some Huey door gunning as a gung-ho 19 year old.
Damn, those were the days, my friend! We made it back!
The VA, as a whole, does need revamping, but I do like my care here.
That’s it right there. Then hire someone like the CEO of Chick-fil-A to restructure the VA and implement a totally new patient-centered quality culture. Eliminate all but one layer of management and reduce their GS grades by a half-dozen steps, cut all the frills and fat, eliminate any and all unions, put every employee on merit-based pay, use part of the savings to totally remodel every VA hospital and upgrade to the best equipment, and then set up a direct hotline to a Trump staff member for any veteran who chooses a VA facility and does not receive first-class treatment.
THAT is what our vets deserve!
Yes, he’d be well suited for something like that.
I like him but agree with you.
I work as a contracted provider within a VA system in the Northwest. The hospital “campus” is huge. I was shocked to learn that there were only 36 beds in the hospital building itself. There are 3 “staff” positions for every medical provider - doctors, nurses, mid-levels, technicians, etc. The VA’s problem is the same as the rest of fedgov: bureaucratic BLOAT! The whole system needs a fire hose enema.
Y’know ... I have a hunch Trump would FIRE these people.
Not necessarily endorsing The Donald, but SOMEBODY needs to tell these federal employees if they do crap like this, they will be FIRED.
This “relocated” stuff needs to stop.
