Ben Carson finished dead last in South Carolina last night, as the polls predicted that he would. He did not finish last due to lack of effort, or because he was focusing on some other state where he had a better chance. By Carson's own admission, South Carolina was a state where he should have done well, and where the large evangelical population should have given him a decent chance to post a good showing.
Instead, he finished behind John Kasich, a guy who spent significant portions of the last week campaigning in far flung places like Michigan. He finished well behind another candidate (Jeb Bush) who desperately needed to do well in South Carolina, and who quit the race after failing to do so.
After being spanked by the voters of South Carolina, Ben Carson took the stage and excused his loss by saying that it was entirely possible that Donald Trump would get all the delegates from South Carolina, so really he did just as well as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. Therefore, he was no bigger a loser than any of the rest of them, and he would continue to press on.
While Carson's point about delegate allocation may or may not turn out to be true, his point about the viability of his campaign, in light of the message sent by South Carolina voters, is not. No person in Carson's position who is even of average intelligence would conclude that the South Carolina results mean that he has as good a chance going forward as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. And Ben Carson is a person of above average intelligence, as his supporters repeatedly claim.

Yeah, he’s obviously a phony. I always suspected he was an Also-Ran for profit, but what sealed the deal 100% for me was sometime around Christmas (before, I think), he suspended his campaign. Not the time he suspended because of that car accident, but a while before that. He suspended for a week so that he could tour and pimp his book, and he had to suspend the campaign because you can’t collect personal wealth while officially campaigning.
How he ever managed more than 1% in any contests after that is a testament to the fact that people simply don’t pay enough attention.
Must be my kind of people.
Don’t like:
-Individual mandate
-forced economic activity
-gratuitous rudeness
-touch-back amnesty
-over-reaching government
-oppressive taxation
Where can I sign up?
No One will ever convince me that Trump , Hillary or Sanders are the answerer but they ARE the BIG 3
and it barbecue of me
Every day that Red State publishes is proof of a scam!
Could he be staying in to draw votes from Rubio and Cruz so that Trump’s percentage is larger? Maybe wants to be VP?
Who knows for sure who he is helping or hurting.
Trump got the MAJORITY of evangelical voters in SC. There’s no guarantee that Carson’s evangelical voters would automatically go to Cruz.
Both Trump and Cruz fit the anti-establishment meme. Again, there’s no telling where those voting for Carson, because he is anti-establishment would go.
Would any of Carson’s voters go to Rubio? I don’t know.
Barbeque= because LOL
DITTO
At least he’s eligible for the presidency. If the rule of law prevails and the Canuck and the anchor baby are disqualified by the courts, then Carson will pick up most of those votes I recon.
Everyone but Cruz, Rubio and Trump need to GET OUT asap!
This is democracy. It should be Carson’s decision.
Carson can’t win but I’m not sure how much he’s skewing the results at this point. He’s a small percentage and he’s so mad at Cruz that I doubt there are many Carson supporters who would support Cruz. I think more of them would go to Trump. Not many would go to Rubio. I think in the end the percentages would be pretty much the same for the other candidates.
At this stage, considering the results so far, if Carson supporters were going to migrate to Cruz, they'd have done so already.
And still he won just as many SC delegates as Cruz or Rubio.
I think it is bizarro that evangelicals voted for the guy that builds casinos and rips off the subcontractors and cant turn a profit when he runs the house.
I find it all very odd
He cant draw votes if PEOPLE DONT VOTE FOR HIM.
The only reason RedState cares is because they think those votes will magically go to Cruz, like evangelicals were to automatically vote for him too.
This article may lead some to believe that Leon Wolf and Red State have a problem with a black candidate. Disgusting.
‘Red State wants Carson votes for Ted.’
And the geniuses figure the best way to get them is to trash Carson. That will so favorably impress Carson’s loyal base, they will flock to Cruz when Carson obligingly yields to Redstate’s demand.
SMH.
Evangelicals do a whole lot more in their lives than attend church and Bible study.
Early in the “draft Carson” campaign I received a phone call to support and contribute to Carson. He had already made a Second Amendment gaff and I doubted his qualifications to be President. One good speech and it was nowhere near as good Reagan’s speech for Goldwater, can qualify someone to be President. I was suspicious then about the Carson effort. I believe he was inserted in the race to split the Conservative / Tea Party vote. There was already strong anti GOP-e sentiment and had been for years. Nothing I’ve seen has changed my opinion, Dr. Carson will have fun, be important and make money from books and speaking engagements. This strategy has backfired and benefited Trump, however the GOP-e would rather have Trump the “deal maker” than Cruz.
