The decade-old dating website OkCupid has been asking their users personal preference questions since the siteâs inception. The company recently released the results of a study on the sexual mores of some million or so users, showing how usersâ views have shifted since 2005.
The company asked a series of questions and sorted out the answers from both men and women, and further broke them down by those who identified as straight, bisexual, and homosexual.
The responses to two questions stand out:
When asked âWould you consider sleeping with someone on the first date?â compared to ten years ago every single group was more likely to answer âno.â (There was an overall decline of about 19%, but straight women and gay men were about 25% less likely to say âyes.â)
When asked, âWould you date someone just for the sex?â every single group again said ânoâ more than they did a decade ago. (The âyesâ answers declined by nearly 10% total.)
Really? In 2016?

I believe so; after all, decadence loses its allure after a while.
Yes!
Wait, what?
Cheap casual sex is so unfulfilling and disappointing. I think bigger numbers of people are learning that lesson. Many may have learned the hard way, but if that life lesson has changed peoples minds about sex, its all good.
I think it is just a simple matter of overall trust in your brother in that our society is becoming even more polarized along a growing list of separating ideals. Plus the ever growing rates of those social diseases.
1) Discover sex
2) Go crazy
3) Discover the consequences of sex
4) Rein it in
Sounds like maybe some of the millennial generation are hitting Step 4.
I’m surprised it’s so soon given that the period between step 3 & 4 are about 22 years. Still, that was a hell of a year for Carnaval....
Cheap casual sex is so unfulfilling and disappointing.
I always thought it would be, so I’ve avoided it. Once I hit about 16 I became active, but I was never a part of the “hookup” crowd, and I always questioned the sanity of the people who were. I always followed the (I guess at this point, super-wholesome) pattern of meeting someone, going on some dates, and becoming official before anything happened.
I’ll never understand how people can just meet someone at a bar, or hotel, or on Tinder or whatever, and just sleep with them immediately. There’s so much more to it than simply “insert tab A into slot B”.
In this day and age, you need a criminal background check, all your shots, and a hazmat suit.
Unfortunately the Hook Up Culture has spawned a generation of single-parent families.
In 1962, I lost my virginity to an older woman...
(I was 12...She was 14...)
She seduced me....
Pleasure, unchecked, becomes boring.
But another major factor is the neutering of the Western male, who prefers video games and porn to living women.
What are these “sex” and “hookups” that they speak of?
They don’t happen in the same world I’m in..
Read further down in the article. The other hook-up apps are likely doing bumper business. Grindr is still the “highway rest stop’ app of choice for the homos, and it’s been discovered that even those who fake “marriage” still keep their accounts active.
