After Mollycoddling Castro, Pope Francis Blunders In Attack on Trump
New York Sun ^ | February 20, 2016 | Conrad Black

The Pope’s ill-considered comments about Donald Trump are of a piece with hysterical overreactions to him and his candidacy in this and other countries. No pope has ever overtly intervened in an American political campaign before.

The only known intervention by the Roman Catholic leadership in U.S. elections were in 1936 and 1940. On the former occasion, the ravings of Father Charles E. Coughlin, the mellifluous Canadian-born radio priest, had become so irritating to then-president Franklin D. Roosevelt that Pope Pius XI sent the Vatican secretary of State, Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli (who would succeed the pope as Pius XII in 1939) to the United States for the entire election campaign, to enforce an instruction of public silence on Coughlin.

Pope Francis allegedly said, as he ended his visit to Mexico, that someone “who thinks only about building walls and not building bridges, is not Christian.” This was an outrageous comment and is not the first time this Pope has blundered into dangerous secular territory.

Trump’s reply to the Pope’s comment was that it was “disgraceful”; that the Pope had no standing to say that he was not a Christian; that Donald is, he reasserted, “a proud Christian”; and that “no religious leader should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith.”

On this I agree completely with Trump. It was wholly inappropriate of the Pope to question Mr. Trump's faith.

It was equally inappropriate of Trump to question the faith of Dr. Carson and Senator Cruz.

“...No pope has ever overtly intervened in an American political campaign before.”

Trump really should have called the Pope on this, and the Pope should be reminded of what his job really is.

I am willing to dump on Frances at every opportunity, but I do not believe he was referring to Trump’s wall. I believe he was talking about metaphorical walls, but the presstitutes never pass up an opportunity to distort and divide.

I would like to agree with you. But this is not the first time the Pope stuck his sandal in his mouth.

I see that charge bandied about, but I don’t remember anything even close to something like that.

Do you have any links?

"I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that," Francis said. "We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt."

"If he said things like that" meaning the way Trump talked about our relationship with Mexico. The Pope thinks that makes Trump unchristian. No metaphysical gobbledygook here.

By the way, did the pope publicly declare Castro or any of the leaders in Mexico as being unchristian for the way they treat their citizens?

"It was wholly inappropriate of the Pope to question Mr. Trump's faith."

It is disturbing that Pope Francis has unscripturally (1 Corinthians 5:12) taken Jesus words of Matthew 7:1-5 concerning judging others out of context with respect to preaching tolerance for same-sex sexual relationships (corrections welcome), the Pope then seemingly doing an about-face on not judging others by questioning Trumps faith.

Agree. Trump questioned Cruz and Carson’s faith. The Pope didn’t help by saying anything about Trump. Trump’s supporters won’t care that Trump questions other candidates faith, but the Pope’s statement turned the always whining Trump into a victim - though he’s never shied away from insulting and impugning the motives of anyone.

After Mollycoddling Castro, Pope Francis Blunders In Attack on Trump

The Anti-Pope cozies up to Castro, comes to the US and doesn't say a word about 0bama's abortion record and then attacks Trump for trying to keep us safe.

When in recent history has a sitting pope personally attacked a specific political candidate of another nation?

the presstitutes never pass up an opportunity to distort and divide.

You might find his interesting. (Rush and Bill Donohue)

RUSH: The guy set the pope up hoping for an answer so he could run around saying the pope doesn't like Trump or whatever. And then take it to Trump and say Trump doesn't like pope and have a back and forth going.

Questioning someone else’s faith is silly. Criticizing people for wanting secure national borders while living in a walled cocoon which is itself enclosed in the national boundary of another country is blatantly hypocritical. It is no different from politicians who would deny people the right to carry firearms for protection, but routinely employ gun toting bodyguards to protect themselves.

After you, Alphonse.

GOP Presidential candidate says that Pontiff would want him as a leader If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS
Donald Trump has responded to Pope Francis claiming that Trump is not a Christian.

Trump posted a message to his official Facebook page shortly after the news broke. The Republican presidential candidate said, If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened.

Trump went on to claim that the Mexican government is manipulating the Pope by only telling him their side of the story. Trump claims that if the Pope knew about the crime associated with illegal immigration, he would not have made those comments.

For a religious leader to question a person faith is disgraceful, Trump said of the Pontiff. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President.

Come on, he's at the border and the only guy who's talked about walls is Trump. Sure, he didn't name Trump, but we know who he meant. It would be like saying "when I'm president, you won't be hearing about escapades wth 20-something interns" and then denying you were referring to Clinton. Pope Francis appears to be the most quoted out of context person of modern times.

Bingo. And Jesus really hates hypocrites! The Pharisees were biblically well-documented hypocrites in that they did all the things they condemned in others. Christ constantly called them on it.

This Pope is just another POLITICAL Leftist.

Benedict resigned due to old age. Francis needs to resign due to stupidity.

BTW, I’m Catholic. I’ve met both Catholic hypocrites and holy people throughout my life. And yes, some of the biggest liars were certain deacons, priests, bishops and archbishops (I’ve never “met” a cardinal, although I did shake hands with Saint John Paul II!). In each and every one of those occasions where I’ve encountered a bad, lying priest, he was a notorious Leftist. EACH time.
