GREENVILLE, S.C.--Jim Moseley considers himself a "Christian soldier." On Thursday, he drove to the Cross Way religious bookstore in Greenville, S. C., the most devout region in one of America's most devout states, to buy his girlfriend an anniversary card inscribed with a Bible verse.
On Saturday, the 58-year-old salesman will vote in a critical Republican presidential primary. And he will vote for an insult-spewing casino developer from New York who has said he has never once asked God for forgiveness, curses without provocation, used to support abortion rights and speaks proudly of his own greed.
Easy decision.
Moseley explained himself with a metaphor adapted from Genesis. Nobody but Donald Trump, he said, can cut off the head of America's snake: bad decisions made on account of political correctness.
"It's about progress, not perfection. His good far outweighs his bad," Moseley said. "We all fall short. I'm a Christian, and I say a cuss word every now and then. I get angry. He just happens to say what we all want to say, what we all feel. And that's why we like him so much. Because he speaks our feelings."
Near Greenville up by the North Carolina border, ninth on one list of "Bible-minded cities," it's hard to drive five minutes without seeing a church. And you can't walk in without finding fans of a man one Baptist leader called "the embodiment of everything that evangelical Christians have been standing against in American culture." It's about feelings.
Pope Francis said Thursday Trump was "not Christian" for his desire to build "walls," like a barrier on the Mexican border, rather than build "bridges." But most of South Carolina's Christians are not in a bridge-building mood.

Which Beast though? There’s so damn many of them these days, I’m doing a lot of wondering.
For all I know, Christian Girlfriend/Boyfriend Anniversary cards are a thing. Capitalism is amazing: if there’s a market, it will be made.
This Pope is a boon to anti-Catholic bigots, much in the same way Obama has increased racism.
Are they voting for a deacon or a president?
I think Middle East beheadings and burning of churches is like a ‘wall’. These folks should be more open.
Your theory is better, of course. I was basically kidding, and said mine was a “conspiracy theory”.
I absolutely agree with you. The Mexican government was behind it because Trump is so outspoken about kicking ass when it comes to trade with them, and immigration.
What’s funny is that it seems the statement was released to target “Christians” in the SC Primary. It shows that they don’t understand Christianity in America. SC is maximum evangelical and anything the pope says is just noise. It would have had a greater intended impact if prior to the California Primary.
Peace...

Never one asked God for forgiveness —
What does this mean?
Historically, this is a fake pope who really doesn’t speak for anyone except his own socialist self interest.
Besides, most of S Carolina Christian conservatism isn’t part of his sphere of influence anyway.
I’m not really sure this particular pope is respected anyplace. Certainly not in the USA.
Damn right.
It could mean that he’s extremely deep and believes in grace.
It could mean he’s extremely shallow and is a ‘go to church’ type Presbyterian.
I suspect it’s the latter, but I’m not electing my next sunday school teacher. I’m electing a warrior who will fight for this nation.
I already know where all the sunday school politicians have taken us.

This is a Jesuit pope.
Let’s look at that history:

Evidently they were communists way before they inspired and taught Karl Marx to be one.
I like that.
I understand he was an Argentinian liberation theologian.
That certainly isn’t catholic.
>>I’m electing a warrior who will fight for this nation.
A Warrior constrained by what moral framework?
The morality of the cage match.
We win.
He’s a Jesuit.

They do love their collectivism.
The Jesuit’s as a group in south America, were much in love with liberation theology.
>>We win.
The history of human nature indicates otherwise.

The idea is to change that around so that we do win.
