Donald J. Trump â@realDonaldTrump 26m26 minutes ago
I was asked about healthcare by Anderson Cooper & have been consistent- I will repeal all of #ObamaCare, including the mandate, period.
I was referring to a backstop for pre-existing conditions. I will eliminate the law, in its entirety, & replace it w/ something much better.
I will replace it with private plans, health savings accounts, & allow purchasing across state lines. Maximum choice & freedom for consumer.
I'm self-funding and I am going to take care of the people â not the special interests and insurance companies like the other candidates.
Remember, Cruz and Bush gave us Roberts who upheld #ObamaCare twice! I am the only one who will #MAKEAMERICAGREATAGAIN!

Gosh do you think Red State, Hot Air, and others will print the clarification.
Didn’t think so.
Well gee maybe now the blogs can move on to the next outrage of the day?
He’s gonna take care of us!
Il pappa trump.
Why WHY WHY!!!! does the only guy in the race who’s right on immigration, trade, and national sovereignty issues also have to be such a dope when people ask him about stuff like health care?
How hard is it to have a staffer train him to say “Repeal and replace with a real free market alternative”?
They must be old people pre internet age who don't know how to look stuff up in Google. The rest that re-post these smears leaked as stories are people who pretend they are neutral but hope by re-posting the lie the convince more of those elderly to change their mind. Or some such.
As we have been saying all day and as was obvious from the context.
Well we’ll find out tomorrow if this was the silver bullet!
Clarifies, walks back....po-tay-to, po-tah-to.
As a general rule, a politician’s off-the-cuff response to an interview question is usually a more reliable indicator of their true beliefs than a carefully-worded statement/retraction issued the next day.
Thank you for the concise textbook example of what’s commonly referred to as “cherry-picking”. Ted Cruz appreciates your support. Don’t tell him, but Heidi is going to e-mail you a personalized thank you note.
That’s certainly not what he said last night. That said, Trump has never been one to let consistency or integrity get in the way of following the political winds wherever they blow.
So I guess the pre-existing conditions cases go to medicaid.
Probably better than what we have.
So, repeal it all expect for the part that does not get repealed .. got it.
Since his 1999/2000 plan was a copy of Heritage Foundations and it had a MANDATED for every one to buy insurance I feel some what less that hopeful that djt is not just covering himself from an accidental truth.
But the "context" doesn't make it any better, nor does Trump's "clarification." Any government-mandated "backstop" to cover people with pre-existing conditions will create a YUGE dis-incentive for people to purchase their own insurance. Why buy it now, when it will be available to you after you get sick anyway?
What’s that Trump-aid taste like? Strychnine Cherry?
Trump is not a guy to be trained by staffers.
That’s my lament for this past week
He’d better fix this
“Why WHY WHY!!!! does the only guy in the race whoâs right on immigration, trade, and national sovereignty issues also have to be such a dope when people ask him about stuff like health care?”
He is being an all-around populist. It is YOU who has a bit of conservatism left. Don’t blame Trump. He is being himself. Blame yourself for your fantasies.
And yet the last sentence mentions “pre-existing conditions.” That was how I understood it when he said it, and that was what he was responding to in the rest of his statement.
