My mother got after me once with a coat hanger.
No wonder I’m a wreck.

Back in my early childhood this bitch would be calling the police on 75% of the fathers. Who my age didn’t get the belt?

The nine-year-old boy is told to go to his room over an allegation he had used his father’s cell phone charger without permission.

I am against government interference in our homes and with our families but beating a nine year old over "using a phone charger without permission"?
Sounds like Dad is a psychotic.

I remember my dad giving me the belt when I didn’t go to my room fast enough. Is that supposed to be child abuse now?

Hey, he knew what he was getting. Hell, she ADVERTISES that she's a nanny.
Nanny-State tactics are to be expected.

My dad used to spank us three kids with a belt (a couple or three swats on the butt with our pants on) but it didn't take long before we all learned to behave ourselves and he never spanked us again. He wasn't a violent man, just a disciplinarian who wanted his kids to learn right from wrong and certain lessons in life. It worked for us kids.
All three of us turned our to be normal, productive adults and we loved our mom and dad very much until they died. I personally never held any animosity towards my dad for spanking me with a belt because I came to learn that I deserved it. When I got older, I'm realized how smart my folks were and was glad they raised us to stay out of trouble.
That being said, even though the spankings were minimal and not permanently hurtful, in today's world, my dad would have been arrested for domestic child abuse and thrown in jail. We would have been taken over by Child Protective Services and put into a foster care home. My parents would have had trouble convincing the state to return us to them. I know two from high school who lived in foster care homes and they were beaten and mistreated by their foster parents. The state's solution didn't seem to work any better.
Nanny state sticking their noses into places only parents should be allowed to go.
