Sorry OldSalt, I left off the sarcasm tag.
“F-the mandate and if this isnât out of context :F-Trump! Iâll never support him and actively work against him if this is true!”
It’s not true. Trump is clearly against Obamacare and the “mandate”.
What he said in the full clip, in response to the question about pre-conditions, is that he would include a mandate for insurance companies covering pre-conditions.
The 13 second clip was a “gotcha”. A Beavis and Butthead “ Oohhh, he said mandate.”
I was fooled by Roberts as well.
He turned out to be very unreliable :-(
Cruz did NOT support Obamacare.
My husband just replayed this from the link on YouTube.
The mandate Mr.Trump is talking about is mandating INSURANCE COMPANIES, to ensure they accept people with pre-existing conditions.
To hear what was actually said, replay this clip from 19:00

if you think that I am a trumpbot, you need to read more carefully.
So tell me, does the Trump cult have a secret handshake?
You're absolutely right. Dishonest may not be the word, it could have been a misunderstanding or inadvertently misleading, but yes, we have to be completely honest in our quotes.
From the transcript:
COOPER: "Repealed and there's no mandate for everybody to have insurance, what's to - why would insurance company (sic) not have a pre-existing"
TRUMP: "Well I like the mandate. OK. So here's where I'm a little bit different. I don't want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this - look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. We get big crowds."
That said, it appears that it is you, not the OP, who were mistaken about the context of Trump's "mandate" statement. True, he was pretty hazy and vague about what he meant, but the fact that he connected the mandate to "people dying in the street" indicated that Trump wasn't talking about "pre-conditions". Trump was talking about the mandate for American's buy mandated insurance.
By the way, my insurance costs have gone up 4x, topping out at $1800 a month, so I can't afford health insurance anymore. Moreover, Obamacare cancelled my good, $900 a month (family, now $1800 for my wife and I) Cadillac policy just as I was diagnosed with heart disease. I needed emergency heart surgery, but for the first time in 40 years, I suddenly had no health insurance. It took me two months before I could get Obamacare, and get scheduled for surgery. TWO FREAKIN MONTHS. So, this is personal, for me.
Now, I have no insurance, (but I have a "medi-share" plan).
That post was not directed to you. It was directed to map. I merely pinged you to it since he was responding to you. That’s how things work here at Free Republic.
He clearly said he loved the mandate, the went on to say he’s for repealing Obamacare when you watch the clip (which was posted by someone else), I think Donald Trump needs to clarify this BECAUSE I cannot support someone for the mandate/tax penalty.
I stand corrected. trump threads ... they always fly hot and fast.
Trumps response was to deflect the question about pre-existing coverage by disputing Coopers premise, i.e. he's actually for the universal mandate.
Then he went off into some campaign blather about large crowds, as he normally does when pinned down about specifics.
Check the transcripts.
"Repealed and there's no mandate for everybody to have insurance" - Cooper is talking about the universal mandate for everyone to buy coverage.
“Mandate” does not refer to forcing insurance companies to insure people with pre-existing conditions.
“Mandate” refers to forcing everyone to buy insurance to subsidize others, such as with pre-existing conditions and low income.
Mandate is a word that can be applied to a variety of situations., including pre-conditions. Try Google.

I try to avoid all the election threads. Once in a while I see something like this and am compelled to chime in.
It all makes sense when you put this up against his support for democrats, his statements about how european socialized medicine works so well.
His statement about people dying in the streets is laughable. Even without any universal mandate, there are so many safety nets that basically everyone who can’t afford to pay for their own healthcare gets it for free anyway.
I have nieces and nephews that have gotten tons of life saving care for free and better doctors than I get with my lousy employer HMO. And all this was before Obamacare.
Perhaps you should have heard the “mandate” in context. Trump was talking about the mandate that pre-existing conditions would carry over into what ever cross state plans he envisions.
If you are going to take the time to make an argument, Please take the time to have the correct information.
I watched the town hall so I distinctly know this particular passage.
Trump likes the mandate, but that is such wimpy language. More explicitly Trump likes forcing people to buy a product, albeit a more competitive product, and using the IRS to enforce their compliance. In my book that is tyranny!
My bad.
But hey, you did get a nifty little, well researched argument in response to Rubio's claim about Cruz supporting Obamacare. You can use it to terminate friendships and alienate family relationships!
Fortunately for me, I have little family left and never had many friends. No one to offend here.
I think Donald Trump needs to clarify this BECAUSE I cannot support someone for the mandate/tax penalty.
I will not support any candidate who is for the Obamacare mandate.
Trump was clearly responding to the question about pre-existing conditions. He is for mandating insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions. That’s what I got from the interview in context.
If Trump were for the individual and/or employer mandate he would be off my list of candidates.
This sneaky gotcha, oohhh he said a bad word, 13 sec clip is an embarrassment.
