(CNSNews.com) – White House spokesman Josh Earnest defended President Barack Obama’s decision to skip Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s funeral on Saturday, telling reporters Thursday that they have “settled on an appropriate and respectful arrangement†and accusing those questioning the decision of using Scalia’s funeral “as some sort of political cudgel.â€
“There’s so much rancor in politics and partisanship that we allow ourselves to get drawn into different corners to the extent that some people actually want to use the funeral of a Supreme Court Justice as some sort of political cudgel,†Earnest said when asked why the president is sending the vice president to funeral instead of attending it himself.
