Let's be honest. Hollywood does not exactly have the best track record when it comes to producing accurate faith-based movies. Remember the giant rock creatures from "Noah"?
So when I heard that Sony Pictures was about to release a faith-based film called "Risen", I was a bit skeptical. Typically faith-based movies are faith-bashing movies.
And when "Risen" earned three-and-a-half stars from the left wingers at the Seattle Times, I was incredulous.
But when I saw the film's trailer, I was astonished - Hollywood got it right.
"Risen" is a powerful telling of the aftermath of the resurrection of Jesus told from the perspective of a non-believer - a Roman military officer.
Joseph Fiennes plays Clavius, assigned to investigate the disappearance of Jesus' body. It's like an old school detective noir story - think C.S.I. Jerusalem.

I just saw an ad/trailer for that? Kinda shocked me actually. Not the movie itself. Just that it was made.
They stole that from the Hobbit trilogy.
I am a skeptic when it comes to most Hollywood iterations of Bible stories, but this looks very high quality and faithful to the Resurrection.
Thanks for the link!
Yeah, I remember when network TV used to broadcast it all week before Easter for several years. Then, ABC started showing “The Ten Commandments” before Easter. Not quite sure why but at least it wasn’t their usual drivel.
wow give us a report back here after you see it.
What about “The Greatest Story Ever Told?”
Not saying it’s a bad movie, but let’s admit it...this story is good, but it’s not new.
Ben Hur is my favorite religiously-themed movie. The silent one was also terrific.
I loved the Zeffirelli film, too.
Must include Passion of the Christ..Greatest Story Ever Told, was that the one with Max von Sydow? Which was the one with Jeffrey Hunter?
I always get a kick out of The 10
Commandments, the acting was so
wonderfully over the top. Great fun!
I loved Peter O’Toole in The Bible.Interesting performance as an angel, IIRC.
This new movie coming out sounds good, I’ll look for it.
the best modern Christian movie I’ve seen lately is WAR ROOM
I think they really erred in the one liners after the Biblical points were made, I think the movie would have been MUCH better without them
but still, that is a MUST OWN movie
"King of Kings."
I watched the trailer the centurion uses the Shroud of Turin to ID Jesus.
King of Kings.
Some wonderful videos there. Thank you.
Thanks for that link.
Pretty sure Zeferelli is not a Jew. However, Sir Lew (later Lord) Grade, the producer was.
Thanks for posting. That was awesome. Watched both trailers. The long one was excellent.
Maybe a gentle, compassionate smile, but surely not a chuckle. The power in that tomb would be high enough to melt rock. Those women were probably terrified.
Something else to meditate on concerning the Resurrection, if you have not already...
Romans 8:11 Amplified Bible
11 And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
I’m outside the theater now...about to head in for the 9:40 show. I’ve long been intrigued by the account of Christ’s appearance before Pilate in John. The other three gospels give a pretty consistent rendering of the encounter, but in John, it specifically mentions that the Jewish mob stayed outside so as not to defile themselves. Pilate has Christ brought inside to interrogate Him, and their back and forth is recounted with some detail and specificity. It begs the question, “who recorded it?”
I’ve never understood why they had Judas Iscariot jump into a large basin of fire in the Temple instead of hanging himself as is so clearly stated in Scripture. Other parts of The Greatest Story are good.
