The California-based tech giant unlocked dozens of iPhones at federal investigators’ requests between 2008 and 2015, a prosecutor argued last year.

All gaiety aside, I stand by the Constitution.

I do too. When presented with a legitimate warrant or writ, you comply with it. That is the rule of law.

You do not come out and say "I am above the law, and I refuse to obey a lawful order."

We want the information. Specific warrant issued for information, duly served and we are on the trail of mass murderers. Apple is blocking us from the information.

To protect their marketing strategy. They are impeding an investigation and potentially endangering other people's lives for profit.

This is pretty simple when you look at it through the Constitutional lens. Nothing to interpret. Whether it’s a map or an email doesn't alter it. Hand it over, and let's kill us some terrorists.

This is what I am thinking.

I would certainly bet that if the SB shooters were white TEA Party guys, Apple would have not only cracked the phone by now but also documented every contact they had made on the phone or the ‘net. And Apple likely would have made the info public by leaks if nothing else.

Apple is blocking nothing. The gov has the phone. They can do whatever they want. Apple’s not stopping them.

Just imagine...you are in a cartel or you are Johnny Jihad...openly plan anything, trade pictures, plans, live intel...and do it anywhere in the world. Busted? You got a 50 Billion dollar a year AMERICAN company that’s got your back. Forget the tactical advantage. Picture the recruiting value.

Thanks Apple.

Apple is dreaming of the BILLIONS more they can make selling these to Jihadists and Cartels.

This is a thought that has also crossed my mind. Certainly in the United States, one would think the protection of requiring a search warrant would be sufficient.

It only leaves that segment of the market that wants something that is beyond compliance with our laws.

The problem is that the FBI is asking Apple to create a software tool that will unlock any Apple 5c iphone, not just the phone in question.

If you believe that the FBI would only use such software for warranted activity only, you're a fool.

Once Apple creates such a tool the genie will never go back in the bottle.

I would not want to take that bet. The party apparat has always had a different set a rules for loyal party members than they do for the general public.

Apple is stopping them. They said so. They will not open the information on the phone. It is their software in the phone. They built it. Sorry, but facts are facts.

And meanwhile, the Jihadists are dancing on our graves.

For the iPhone 6 and on, Apple has no ability to do anything.

This phone is not an Iphone 6. It is an IPhone 5, and they can unlock it. They just refuse to do so.

And I'm not ready to believe that they can't crack an IPhone 6 if they really wanted to.

The 70 cases cited all were prior to the new security protocols, which is why Apple is saying they no longer have the ability to break the phone open.

This has been posted and debunked at least once.

They've rigged it to blow if tampered with, so yes, Apple is stopping them, prior to the fact.

Apple got tired of being on call every time someone wanted them to open up there phone, so they did something most companies don’t do! They wrote there own software so even they can’t hack it. There simply is no way for Apple to open this phone. The only way is to upgrade the phone with a new op-system update. The US Government is trying to force Apple to write software that a private company refuses to write.
It’s analogous to a safe company being told by the FBI, every safe you make must have a key that you must give to us.
Was John Roberts right or wrong when he said, american citizens are not citizens in good standing unless they purchase a product at the insistence of the government?

“If you believe that the FBI would only use such software for warranted activity only, you’re a fool.”

Ahhh. The ultimate defense for law breakers. What MIGHT happen. Isn’t that why black guys run from cops?

Call a Wahhhhbulance. It just isn’t fair. They are disobeying a lawful order. The courts will decide. Don’t like the Constitution? Get it changed.

Apple changed its encryption scheme so that they no longer can unlock iPhone 6.

That is the technical issue.

They no longer have the decryption key.

I don’t want my phone broken. The San Bernadino terrorists are dead. Whatever is in those phones is probably not worth very much. What do they expect to find that isn’t in ATT or Verizon network? Doesn’t NSA have all the metadata? Isn’t that why they wanted all the metadata? They should hack the phones their own damn selves. There are lots of qualified hackers out there. Pull out the memory chips and read them.

prior to the fact. Yep. Its why some people buy the phones. They are like a padlock company, and the gov wants them to help them figure out how to break it.

The other people who bought these padlocks side with apple, for obvious reasons.

The problem is that the FBI is asking Apple to create a software tool that will unlock any Apple 5c iphone, not just the phone in question.

STOP REPEATING THIS HISTRIONIC ASSERTION.

According to this article, the FBI is going to give Apple inc custody of the phone. The phone will remain in Apple's custody until Apple gets it to unlock.

I am now thinking this constant repeating of the claim that the government wants a software tool that will unlock any IPhone is a deliberate propaganda tactic originating from Apple itself. I am beginning to think that it is a deliberate attempt to stampede the public into supporting Apple's position through the spread of false claims.

And meanwhile, the Jihadists are dancing on our graves.

That's the government's fault for not stopping them at our border. It's not Apple's problem that the government can't do its' job.
