Pope Francis Rips Capitalism, American Immigration Policy at Mexican Border
Breitbart ^ | February 18, 2016 | By Ben Shapiro

Posted on 02/18/2016 10:36:41 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Pope Francis, apparently desperate to reach out to the Catholic Church’s growing base in Latin America, spent the day slapping Americans in the face from across the US-Mexico border.

In Ciudad Juarez, one of the most violent cities in the Western Hemisphere thanks to the drug cartels, the pope walked up a ramp covered in flowers toward a cross “erected… in memory of migrants who have perished trying to reach the United States just a stone’s throw away,” according to Reuters.

Funny, he never did that while visiting Cuba to pay tribute to those who died attempting to escape that Communist hellhole. He reserved his spite for a nation with one of the most generous immigration policies on the planet.

The pope then blessed three more small crosses, at which “shoes of migrants who died” were laid. “We cannot deny the humanitarian crisis,” Pope Francis intoned. “Each step, a journey laden with grave injustices: the enslaved, the imprisoned and extorted; so many of these brothers and sisters of ours are the consequence of trafficking in human beings…Injustice is radicalized in the young; they are ‘cannon fodder,’ persecuted and threatened when they try to flee the spiral of violence and the hell of drugs. Then there are the many women unjustly robbed of their lives.”

He concluded, “Let us together ask our God for the gift of conversion, the gift of tears, let us ask him to give us open hearts like the Ninevites, open to his call heard in the suffering faces of countless men and women. No more death! No more exploitation!

This came shortly after the pope said that capitalism cut against God, and that God would punish “slave drivers of our days” supposedly exploiting workers, adding, “The flow of capital cannot decide the flow of people.”

Pope - you lost your moral authority. You are not a pope, you are a political activist. And did you condemn the Castros and Maduro for the pain and suffering they brought on their people?

Out of respect for Catholic FReepers and to avoid any misunderstanding, I’ll just keep my thoughts about this to myself.

Francis tried to rip Trump.

BREAKING NEWS: Pope attacks Trump saying he is ‘not Christian’ for wanting to build a wall (tr)

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is ‘not Christian’ because of his views on immigration, Pope Francis said on his way back to Rome from Mexico. The pope said, however, he did not want to advise American Catholics on whether or not to vote for Trump. In a freewheeling conversation with reporters on his flight back from a visit to Mexico, Francis was asked about Trump and some of his statements, such as vowing to build a wall between the United States and Mexico if he becomes president.

Sadly, there is nothing new in having a Roman pontiff meddling in the affairs of civil governance. That was one of the causes of the Reformation and reasons why so many supported it. The Counter Reformation forcibly (that is, with the use of naked power, which is the province of government not the church) coerced many into at least superficial obedience. In other words, papal power has never been too shy about the use of the power of the sword, which instrument God gave to civil government only, not to ecclesiastical government. So when the current pope says that the building of a wall is “not the gospel,” he is right. But the proclamation of the gospel is not the task of government! It is the task of the church, which he, Francis I, by blathering about things political/governmental, is failing to do. He is neglecting the prime duty of the church to meddle in affairs that are not his business. Let catholics consider carefully what they are seeing and hearing.

So, again, there is nothing new here. But it remains as sad and shameful now as it was in the time of the Reformation and the centuries that followed.

It could back fire. I am not a Trump fan but I suggest this could push voters to Trump standing up against this hypocrite.

I agree.

How can a guy touring poor nations, not see the benefits of a system that lifts most of it’s citizens out of poverty.

Those it doesn’t, are generally those that destroy themselves too.

The Pope is too busy trying to find a boogie-man behind every U. S. dollar.

He sure doesn’t mind raking it in from those who live in that Capitalist hell hole though.

The American Catholic Church MUST repudiate this Pope or the US should tax the living crap out of it. Failing that, declare the Catholic Church hostile to the interests of the United States.

When the busybody pope tears down the wall around the Vatican, and welcomes the muslin hoards, he can have something to say. In the meantime, STFU.
