Maryland's Senate president called for civility Friday after Democrats received what he called "the most vicious hate mail you can possibly imagine" in the aftermath of overriding the Republican governor's veto. One caller expressed the hope a senator's wife would be raped and killed.

Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller asked Gov. Larry Hogan to stop his supporters from singling out senators in messages on social media. Hogan's spokesman said it was "ridiculous" and "beyond outrageous" to imply the governor was responsible for encouraging people to make such calls and comments.

Giving felons the right to vote?!

Democrats demonstrate they can count on the votes of murderers, rapists, thieves and gang-bangers. Why, it's an untapped core constituency.

That is assuming such a call was actually received.

I must admit, I’ve always thought you should get a clean start once you’ve “paid your debt to society”. And lots of conservatives also feel that way. Though, voting is no big deal. As Mark Twain (or Emma Goldman) said, “If voting could make a difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.”

If they had any guts, they’d go after these Kafkaesque sex-offender lists and those places they lock up “sex offenders” AFTER they serve their sentences. But, I fear bringing that up here, so no way a politician will ever do it in public.

I agree. I figure once you’re out of prison, you’ve paid your debt to society. You should have all the rights that come with being a free man.

This is not for people who have completed their sentences. It’s for people on probation or parole. Those people are still under control of the judicial system.

Keep in mind the demo supporters who did the override are Hitlery supporters... they are Mikulskiite types— they see how they lost the governorship, and they have to find new voters .... now, since there isn’t enough illegals and Syrians in MD .... yet.

Not a problem; most criminals and cons feel the way you do.

That's what sociopaths do.

OK I left my Ouija Board in my other suit.
What was the bill about?
Why did the governor veto?

Why did the dims override?

All of those questions can be explained in two sentences or less.

The article fails.

I agree. I figure once you’re out of prison, you’ve paid your debt to society. You should have all the rights that come with being a free man.

There are many crimes where the term of incarceration is only part of the debt to society. If one commits stock fraud, there is prison time and also a prohibition on ever becoming a stockbroker, or working in the financial sector.

Criminals can always be counted on to vote for less punishment and more gun control.

It’s getting closer to tar and feather time.

This is mind-boggling on so many levels:

*First, that they would pass the bill at all.

*Second, that they would override the veto after the chatter about the bill has been so very negative all over the state.

*Third, that they would deign to override the Governor’s very appropriate veto.

*Fourth, that they would fail to understand how incensed The People would be at their arrogance.

*And fifth, but probably not the last we’ll hear of this outrage, that they would blame the Governor for the impotent outrage of The People on whose freedoms and safety they are so cavalierly trampling.
***

So, the governor says The People’s option now is to put them out of office. Will it also take another bill, after they are put out of office, to overturn this offensively corrupt piece of ^&#* bill?

The bill allows felons on probation or parole to register to vote before they have finished serving their sentence (which include probation and parole, of course).

The explanation of the bill was farther down in the article.
