Vanity: Question: Is the Senate in session now?
2/16/2016 | Vanity

Posted on 02/16/2016 4:26:06 PM PST by John S Mosby

What actions have been taken to prevent any fast and loose footwork? Question posed to all-- especially those with contacts... like w/ McConnell. Newt Gingrich can tell them how to do this in perpetuity until January 20, 2017.

Somebody answer how to find this out, and result, and then... admin. please remove. Thank You.

It doesn’t matter if the Senate is in session or not, the dems have their men at the helm of the House and Senate.

The answer is yes, but the Supreme Court ruled that a President cannot do a recess appointment to Supreme Court unless Congress is in a longer than 10 day recess, excluding Sunday. When the get back they will be within that 10 day timeframe. I will try to find the story I read that in.

Yes, it is. It’s currently adjourned, but is still in session. It can be recalled by the chair at any time, otherwise I believe it’s due to reconvene next week.

I posited this possibility earlier today when I heard Obama was giving an announcement todat and I posted this:

“Prediction: he does an interim appointment today; I don’t trust him. Why pass up a golden opportunity while Congress is in recess and has done nothing to protect itself?”

Thank goodness at least so far he hasn’t taken advantage of the opportunity. However, I sure hope the Pubs have called Congress back into session now and have a few people there making it legal, or they could sincerely regret it. I trust Obama no further than I could throw him. And Pubs sometimes are so naive.

You’re right, the Supreme Court did rule this, however, wasn’t sure what amount of days was considered long term. Hope it is indeed 10 days. I worry.

Thank you— a good read. Heard today that Schumer— called out on his BS “NO” to any and all GW Bush nominees— did a soft shoe routine saying “when I said that back then, I didn’t say we wouldn’t have a hearing, just that we’d say no to every one”. Imagine what a weasel this clown is.

Because, in the speech (which is on the Media Research Center site, btw) he said.... no to everything from Bush on SCOTUS nomination. IOW he lied, just yesterday. Calling him on his own “precedent” is a beautiful thing.

BTW- Harry Reid looks like some kind of 50’s mob guy— like out of “Bullitt” or something— really hilarious looking whacko with the rayban prescription shades for his head injury.

The White House already ruled out a recess appointment.

"Prediction: he does an interim appointment today; I don't trust him. Why pass up a golden opportunity while Congress is in recess and has done nothing to protect itself?"

Look at the age distribution of the Associate Justices. Obama bypasses Congress and -- if he's lucky -- gets his Justice for 10 months. But he will then get attacked as a dictator, will get all the rest of his judicial nominations blocked, and the Democrats might well lose the White House in November. Option 2 -- he nominates a Justice -- some election-critical minority not yet represented on the Court, say, a left handed gay Hopi Indian -- the Democrats win in November, fill Scalia's seat, and go on to appoint the next three (3) SC vacancies.

Or that's the plan. The fly in the ointment is that if she's not indicted, Hillary is still a horrible candidate.

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who ya are! That's why we keep getting helical rectal invasion by Bitch McConman, Paul Rhino and before him John Boneus.

“Or that’s the plan. The fly in the ointment is that if she’s not indicted, Hillary is still a horrible candidate.”

The second fly in the ointment is that if Trump is our candidate, he will beat the pantsuit off of Hillary. Oooh, Hillary sans pantsuit equals eye poison.

“Dems have their men at the helm, when Republicans control both houses of Congress?? What the heck???”

I think he was referring to the ‘Uniparty’ in Congress.

I LOL when I read his post! ;-)

Recess Appointments are not permanent appointments. The Senate could literally do nothing and the next President could nominate a permanent appointee.

High court rules against Obama on recess appointments

But the majority opinion by Justice Stephen Breyer did not go further and limit recess appointments to remote periods and circumstances, as a federal appeals court had ruled last year. It said simply that three days is not long enough to qualify as a recess; 10 days, it said, would qualify.

Even a temporary appointment could cause serious damage.
