Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina congressman who supports Marco Rubio, called for Ted Cruz to repudiate the most recent bit of "underhanded tactics" ahead of the South Carolina primary.
"In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Sen. Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator," Gowdy said. "Now, Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I'm instead supporting Ted Cruz.
"Nothing could be further from the truth and I'm demanding that Sen. Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics," Gowdy continued. "We can have a debate about the future of our party and our country. But we need not leave our integrity behind."
In the Facebook post at hand by a page titled "Trey Gowdy Prayers," it says that the most recent debate "revealed [Rubio's] total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight," before switching the faux endorsement to Cruz.

I would do it once Trey announces he is going to fire his hairdresser.
Why would Cruz have to "say" or "do" anything when he did nothing wrong? This feels like nothing more than a set up to bash Cruz for something someone else did.
If Cruz falls for that trap after Iowa.......I would worry that he was too stupid to be in this race.
BTW, this FB page has been up since May? 2014. If Goober Gowdy doesn't like it, he should contact FB and demand that the REAL owner take it down immediately..... instead of trying to chain it around Cruz's neck for Rubio's political gain.
Gowdy looks like one of those kooks form the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
From what Facebook will let me see (since I don’t have an account), that page was created in 2014.
Keep in mind that professional campaign organizations work for whoever hires them. Democrat, Republican, they don’t care, it’s all about money to them.
This page may have been an asset that the people orchestrating the Cruz campaign created for whatever purpose before Cruz hired them, and they went back to it when they realized that it had value for them on their current project.
Note also there are posts on that page falsely claiming that Gowdy rescinded his endorsement of Rubio, and switched to Cruz.
Whoever did this, it is pure slime.
And he's been following some real bad advice. The "shaming" mailing is evidence of that.
If he can't make good choices for his campaign staff and he can't control their over-zealous behavior, how's he ever going to control those things as President?
Gowdy has turned out to be a big joke. A remember a year ago I would see video’s of him in action think the he was an uncontrollable conservative shark, but then he let Hillary off. Gowdy has done nothing but disappoint ever since.

Trying to insinuate that Cruz is connected to this.... when there is no proof.......is pure slime, in my book.
Rush explained today why he refuses to attack any of the candidates.
The number one enemy of this nation is the democrats and he does not want to damage anyone that can defeat the democrats, so obviously he thinks Trump could win.
He also pointed out that he had attacked the Clintons for all these years and has spent 9 years attacking Obama and the result was that Clinton served two terms, Obama served two terms and Hillary is leading the democratic field.
I wish we would figure out that all this vile opposition posting has no value to anyone except the enemy, but experience tells me we won't.
Because the FB post is misleading, and if taken on its face, can be taken as benefitting his campaign, and the false FB page was pointed out to him, with a request to repudiate its contents, and perhaps admonish whoever put it up.
Candidates have been known to repudiate ads put up "for the benefit" by outside PACs (not saying this is a PAC effort). By repudiating the contents and tactic, he is not accepting responsibility for the existence of it.
I'm fine if he follows your advice, I just see that as a defensive, "guilty conscience" sort of reaction to something false popping up outside of your control.
God Cruz is just the worst. I am laughing in dismay. The guy never stops. I guess now Gowdy knows how it feels.
Anyone who actually believes that the “Trey Gowdy Prayers” page is Gowdy’s official FB page is an idiot and shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Facebook is full of fan pages that have absolutely no affiliation with the actual person for whom they are created.
I “ain’t a FB/Twitter kinda guy” so do not know, really have no idea and hesitate to even speculate.
It would be good to have the source uncovered no matter where it leads!!
If Trey really wanted to ascertain where it originated think in the position he is in could uncover it.
I wish we could get Cruzers to tell us, who are the people you would NOT turn on like a banshee if they didn't genuflect before TFOG (The Face Of God, may his name be praised).
And get them to say IN ADVANCE. Because once someone says one small thing that indicates less than total fealty to Cruz, that person becomes Hitler, to the Cruzers. So, Cruzers, who, what conservative figure, would you NOT turn on if they did not support Cruz? Please give some names.
He’s also the a coward that walked away from the Conservative Caucus fight in the House to support and vote for John Boehner as Speaker when he was on the ropes.

They didn’t back down from the tweets and mailers in Iowa, why back down now, if it is them?
