Gowdy calls for Cruz to denounce 'underhanded tactics'

Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina congressman who supports Marco Rubio, called for Ted Cruz to repudiate the most recent bit of "underhanded tactics" ahead of the South Carolina primary.

"In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Sen. Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator," Gowdy said. "Now, Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I'm instead supporting Ted Cruz.

"Nothing could be further from the truth and I'm demanding that Sen. Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics," Gowdy continued. "We can have a debate about the future of our party and our country. But we need not leave our integrity behind."

In the Facebook post at hand by a page titled "Trey Gowdy Prayers," it says that the most recent debate "revealed [Rubio's] total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight," before switching the faux endorsement to Cruz.

I really can’t do much with the page since I don’t have a FB account.

But it’s clearly not in any way an official Trey Gowdy page, regardless of when it was created.

So yes, the page is unquestionably fake. But who is doing it?

Only Facebook knows for sure, but considering the kind of people that Cruz has hired for his campaign, it could very well be their doing.

Cruz has the right enemies. Trump hobnobs with Clintons and cavorts with PP types. Cruz has been fighting the left all of his life. Trump has been embracing the left for the majority of his life. Assume, at least for talking purposes, it has nothing to do with Cruz's campaign. If you are the Cruz campaign, and some jerk puts up a false claim that has play in your campaign, what would you say about it? "We didn't do it" might be part of the reaction, but it's also important to inform the public that the post is flase, and whoever put it up ought to be ashamed.

Instead we get an expression of outrage, of being accused of something they weren't directly accused of.

Time for blaming Cruz’s campaign staff has passed. They have put on a shameful campaign that he has endorsed every step of the way. At some point it’s on him. That point was when they left IA, where every dirty political trick in the books was used. If heads didn’t roll then, it all comes down to Cruz personally. He’s the guy in charge, he’s the guy who says “I’m Ted Cruz and I approve this ad.” That is NOT a ‘good man.’

This is obviously a fan page for Congressman Gowdy, and not a "fake" page created to look like it's Gowdy's official Facebook page. Whoever is running the page looks to have changed their support from Rubio to Cruz. To imagine Cruz having some sort of under-handed scheme with this page is ridiculous at best and dishonest at worst.
