The Bushes Try to Make Trump the New McCain (Jeffrey Lord)
American Spectator ^ | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 02/16/2016 6:42:50 AM PST by RoosterRedux

To these Establishmentarians the Trump performance was a call for the smelling salts. Trump attacked the Bushes. O...M...G!!!!

What seems to go right over the heads of these fine folks is that there is more to this than just the battle between Ronald Reagan and the GOP Establishment all over again. To be sure, Trump isn't Reagan. As noted often enough, no two human souls are alike. But while the animosity on display towards Trump from the Bush camp and the larger GOP Establishment is exactly what was on display as Reagan did battle with both the Bushes and the GOP years ago -- there's more here.

Put aside the Reagan-Bush divide. With President Bush 43 now campaigning in South Carolina for Jeb -- and with Jeb Bush haughtily defending John McCain as a "hero" and taking such umbrage at Trump attacks on the Bushes -- let's take a look back at the 2000 GOP primary in South Carolina between George W. Bush and John McCain. -- Let's just see how "the Bushes" and the GOP Establishment work when challenged. Suffice to say the Bush campaign of 2000 and its allies treated John McCain as anything but a hero. And conducted the Bush campaign in a way far distant from the public image Jeb Bush seeks to portray.

*snip*

Indeed, the McCain campaign did not fight back in 2000. And they didn't fight back against Obama in 2008. Nor did the Romney campaign fight back when running against Obama in 2012. Which is why neither man became president -- and George W. and Barack Obama did.

*snip*

The bottom line? Donald Trump fights. And in being utterly unafraid to take on the Bush campaign apparatus that left John McCain both defeated, bitter, and angry in 2000 after South Carolina...

LOVE Jeffrey Lord!! He gets it, and has for some time, now.

Love how he’s exposed/reminded us of the lying Bush family and their own attacks against Jeb’s new *hero*, McCain.

Trump will mop the floor with Jeb...and the Bush/Clinton ‘dynasties’.

Many Republicans see Trump as an ignorant undisciplined “bully”.

Ignorant? Yes. Poison gas WAS found in Irag.

Undisciplined? Yes. His speeches are always “un-scripted” and always the same: Polls — blah, blah. “Greatest” — blah, blah. Look at this great crowd — blah, blah.
BORING!

Bully? Yes. He’s always threatening to “sue” this one or “sue” that one if he doesn’t get his way. So much for reasoned, fact-based debate, eh? How “Clinton-esque!

I know there’s no love between the GOPe and Cruz and Rubio.
I suspect that TRUMP, the “Great Deal-maker”, has already made a “deal” with the GOPe that lets the GOPe keep their limp fingers on the controls of the GOP.

But..but... That would betray his supporters. Yes, but if you think such a betrayal couldn’t happen, ask the folks that Trump screwed with his bankruptcies.
(All strictly “legal” —like everything Hillary does....)

IMHO, America will not be safe if our Trump-bots nominate an “Obama-with-bad-hair”

Members of the Bush camp were seen non stop last night. VP Chaney, it was wonderful to see you in such good health: weight gained and your pallor altered to show a bit of color.
Pres. George W, was it your mom or your dad who shamed you into stepping up to defend your brother JEB! It was with much surprise to see you aside him defending him when you were unable to defend yourself against the attacks from the other side of the isle. And, sir, for the record your brother has shown himself to be not of the same character as you. Why would you choose to see the difference? He folded when he was asked to defend a helpless Terri Schiavo. Would you have done the same? The Bush administration has seen its operatives on the broadcasts just as many times as the Clinton friendly faces. Sir, you and Clinton might just be brothers from another mother. The two of you seem to be cut from the same cloth. Your time in office was personally appreciated. Your time out of office was up until now done in silence. Just why do you now step up to the plate? Is JEB!s winning that important to the republican party? Please return to your gated community and continue with your painting. JEB! is a lost cause and not even you have a loud enough blow horn to help his rise from the quicksand.

Yes and that presser yesterday was a clear warning to GW. Trump did not mince words. I don’t blame him a bit. Dubya hasn’t opened his yap in 7 years so he needs to just shut up and paint.

“IMHO, America will not be safe if our Trump-bots nominate an ‘Obama-with-bad-hair’”

Trump is no Messiah.
Trump is no Angel.
Trump will stoop very low when needed.
Trump will not take the high road, because in the current political climate, the high road always leads to a cliff.
The enemy uses Alinsky tactics, fight fire with fire.
Trump always returns fire, always.
I want a fighter, not a sniveling coward that allows to be mocked and challenged. It is that sort that has caused the Republic to be teetering on the brink of destruction.

I am principled enough to support whoever wins the nomination because at all costs, the Red Threat must be stopped now...or never.
In the past I have had to vote for far worse than Trump in futile attempts to stop the madness.
As a party, never, never, attack the front runner...that is what makes a winning team.
Should Trump lose his front running status then my commentaries and parodies will change.
Trump is not a conservative. But the fact is, a true conservative will lose the General Election. There are just not enough conservatives to carry the day, we therefore need cross over votes. Trump can do that.
I am just being pragmatic. It boils down to the math. It really is that simple.
I believe Trump will build a wall, and will attempt to bring jobs back and inject nationalism into a world that insists on Globalism.
If that means we need to compromise on other issues, for the time being, I will buy it. We must take what we can get and live to fight another day.
Any other attitude will result in the end of the grand experiment that the Founders devised. A Republic, for which it stands, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. That is what I hope to preserve for my grand children.

You left out a few key components about Trump building a wall. Trump will build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. So, until Mexico pays for it, no wall will be built. He also described a big beautiful door. That has already been built. It is a big door that runs from Brownsville to San Diego. He wants all the good ones to come back in, legally, on an expedited basis. That is almost all of them by his open-ended criteria. Touchback amnesty. It is the same plan as Rubio’s without the bus fare.

Will the far left build a wall? No, of course not. Less so than “moderate” Republicans. Trump has time and again shown that he remains part of the far left. Bush lied, people died. 9/11 was Bush’s fault. Planned Parenthood does a lot of good, the government will pay for it...

Lefty liberals are all the same, regardless of current party affiliation.

I notice you didn’t even try to refute my assertion that Trump may very well be remembered as the President who saved America to fight another day.

“You left out a few key components about Trump building a wall. Trump will build a wall and make Mexico pay for it....”

That premise is based on your assumption that Mexico will get an invoice? Think again.

The rest of your concerns are valid under historical precedence... you would be absolutely correct.

Today, though, I sense that these are strange times. The grand community organizer, assisted by the GOP, has created a populace of seething, disgusted, frightened, and vengeful legal citizens that remain civil, but politically want to throw shoes into the machinery , upset the apple carts, and toss tea into the harbor.

The left complains and opines that the house is -obstructing- the -progress- of the executive branch. As if that is a bad thing. As both houses are Republican, then it follows that the left are actively defying the will of the people.

We need to think outside the box.
Far from perfect, the Trump Bomb must be deployed.
There will be collateral damage but we are running out of time and options.
We all know that every politician fails to deliver on all of his/her promises and for a variety of reasons.
We have many reasons not to trust Trump, however, to argue that our trust should instead be foisted to a lawyer, and a career politician, is just not a reasonable position.
This nation is in the red to the tune of 19 trillion dollars.
We need a true business man to take the helm, not ideologues.
If that means the businessman has no moral core, then so be it.
There is no other candidate with a profit oriented business resume, none. Zero. Zip. Taking charge of the world s biggest business is no position for on the job training.

Just as we do not have time for political correctness, we have no time to pin our hopes on people who have never run a lemonade stand. People who think they are a success by doubling if not tripling national debt then preen about the wonderful economy that we all enjoy. That the economy is so good that we can spread around the ‘wealth’.
Good God, I could go on, but the more I type, the more I want to vomit.

You gave a glowing endorsement of Michael Bloomberg, should he decide to run. His businesses have been much more successful than Trump’s, his accumulated wealth is orders of magnitude greater and, like Trump, he has no moral core.

Will you support him if he should run? Your criteria suggest so.
