Poll: South Carolina still solidly for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton
The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll Donald Trump keeps a large lead in South Carolina, bolstered by support from conservatives and also from evangelical voters, who make up a large share of the electorate here.
Ted Cruz is in second place, but well behind Trump. Cruz has the support of those who consider themselves very conservative, but trails Trump among all conservatives as well as moderates.
John Kasich has gotten a little bounce out of his surprisingly strong showing in New Hampshire, but he may be limited here by the fact that evangelical voters are not as strongly in support of him as non-evangelicals.
For Trump voters, who have been relatively steadfast in their support over the last few months, the percentage who say they've firmly decided on Trump has increased. Trump's lead among evangelicals is up from January, and he has widened his lead among conservatives, too.
In a contest marked by divisions among so-called "insiders" and "outsiders," South Carolina Republicans show a strong preference for campaigns running as the latter, and this poll helps illustrate why. By four to one, South Carolina Republicans describe the "establishment" as a bad thing, and few describe it as a group that knows how to get things done.

Thank you for the charts.

Mrs. Smooth is turned off by his too tight jeans. She says he looks disgusting.
He started out being my second choice because of his constitutional background. But after all his dishonest and underhanded sleaze, I’ve relegated him to the dust heap.
Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that you are right.
In the other threads I see the Cruzies are trying really hard today with all kinds of posts to slam Donald Trump. Let them bang their heads against the wall, it’s not moving their polls at all. Waiter, more popcorn please. ;-)
I figure after SC and NV go to Trump the Cruzers will pretty much have the wind out of their sails and we can all get back to looking toward the general election.
See for yourself what he said in 2013. Now he has flipped. Which Cruz is to be believed? How is Cruz a good Christians when he lies with a straight face, and cheats an honest man like Dr Carson?

A few minutes ago I was reflecting back on him, and for some reason that campaign mailer that said, “Check enclosed” on the outside came to mind.
Here it is: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CaS2NCJUUAAoHb7.jpg
I don’t know how many people have the same reaction I do when I get mailings like that, but it immediately drops my respect for the sending party to absolute zero.
It’s ultimately dishonest, deceptive, misleading, and an implied lie, “You stand to gain if only you’ll open this mailer.”
That ranks down below a used car salesman to me.
Then his mailer that implied folks had somehow violated voting guidelines, and neighbors would know...
If you know nothing more about the guy than those to campaign tactics, it would tell you this man has no morals, and doesn’t deserve to sit in a position of authority.
Trump is certainly not perfection, but when the cards are delt and the chips are on the table, I expect him to show us his cards.
Ted has displayed he would be willing to hide things from us or misrepresent the facts.
And that is just what his campaign has been IMO > one big massive misrepresentation of the facts.
Sorry Ted, but you’re out.
âVery conservative,â Cruz 37, Trump 33
âConservativeâ Trump 49, Cruz 18
âEvangelicalâ Trump 41, Cruz 25 (!!!)
That is unbelievable...
Yeah, the sleaze factor created quite a stench, no doubt about it.
If the issue of “mailers” is a deciding factor for you, I wish I lived in your country. Unfortunately the U.S. has 500 problems more pressing than that all being caused by putting non-conservatives in political office.
Cruz didn’t even know his campaign workers passed on CNN’s report until long after it happened. Other campaigns told Cruz supporters at the caucus Cruz wasn’t eligible for the presidency. That was the outright lie.
Example: Crux's cloture vote. He pushed for it, then voted to bring it to the floor, then voted against it knowing it was going to pass.

SOP for self-serving Cruz---an Ivy League mind at work:
<><> He takes 3-4 positions on an issue.
<><> He then lies in wait to see which position benefits him.
<><> Once the voting stops, he examines which way the political winds are blowing.
<><> He then pulls out a canned excuse to cover his self-serving ***.

Wow. Very enlightening post. I see the same things in Cruz too.
The buck for Cruz campaign STOPS with Cruz!
Add to the lack of size,
<><> Cruz/s industrial strength narcissistic personality...
<><> his lifelong self-absorption
<><> putting himself first above others, always acting as if he were better and smarter than the rest of humanity....
<><> a snob in spades....feeling he is destined for great things.
<><> Cruz wouldn/t play team sports b/c he/d share the glory with others.
<><> His vaunted debate championship was not in the National Debate Tournament of 2-person teams;
<><> Cruz debated in a Canadian tournament where he received all the credit himself.
<><> his reputation in the Senate....where most of his Senate colleagues despise him....is well-deserved. (hat tip bigbob)
I’s easy to do clips from his speeches about the poison pill amendment he offered and portray him differently than he was.
But that is not an accurate portrayal at all of what happened at the time.
He knew his bill would fail, but he pushed it specifically to show that the Gang of Eight and the dems were not interested in anything but trying to get the vote of the illegals.
His language would have given them most of what they said that they wanted...but specifically excepted the vote. And THEY voted it down. And in doing so, they proved Cruz’s point.
He fought them tooth and nail and save for him and Sessions, it is likely that the bill they dems fostered would have passed.
But it did not.
That’s what really happened...and I know it is easy to take his efforts to present that poison pill bill and portray it as if though he were actually in favor of what Rubio and the others were pushing at the time.
But it is simply not so...and those of us who were plugged into this at the time all knew it and applauded him for his efforts...and his success...in helping defeat that bill and the gang of 8 at the time.
Many Americans are beginning to understand the Natural Law definition of natural born Citizen as understood by our Founding Fathers. I believe this is partly the reason why both Rubio and Cruz are polling so poorly.
WOW!!!
