Poll: South Carolina still solidly for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton
The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll Donald Trump keeps a large lead in South Carolina, bolstered by support from conservatives and also from evangelical voters, who make up a large share of the electorate here.
Ted Cruz is in second place, but well behind Trump. Cruz has the support of those who consider themselves very conservative, but trails Trump among all conservatives as well as moderates.
John Kasich has gotten a little bounce out of his surprisingly strong showing in New Hampshire, but he may be limited here by the fact that evangelical voters are not as strongly in support of him as non-evangelicals.
For Trump voters, who have been relatively steadfast in their support over the last few months, the percentage who say they've firmly decided on Trump has increased. Trump's lead among evangelicals is up from January, and he has widened his lead among conservatives, too.
In a contest marked by divisions among so-called "insiders" and "outsiders," South Carolina Republicans show a strong preference for campaigns running as the latter, and this poll helps illustrate why. By four to one, South Carolina Republicans describe the "establishment" as a bad thing, and few describe it as a group that knows how to get things done.

Exactly. I love my mom and dad too but at 45 I don’t talk about them in job interviews. There’s something very disturbing about a man whomwants to be President constantly having his mommy and daddy and Big Brother vouch for him. Jeb is so tone deaf that he doesn’t see how sick to death this country is of th Bushes. They have exhausted any good will they once had. Even though Trump can sometimes be inarticulate, the country is loving someone finally standing up and telling the Bushes to go him. Jeb is like the Little Leaguer who can’t play yet his father keeps putting him at shortstop.

I think it's too late. After Nevada, the D's go to South Carolina and then the South. The over-30 Af-Am vote in the South is too large for Biden to win; they'll stick with the Clintons, for the most part. The Bernie voters aren't going to abandon him now.
Biden will take votes from Clinton, effectively splitting the "rational" D vote. And I use "rational" only as a point of contrast for Bernie.
The only way Biden can get in the race now is if Hillary gets out. Short of prison, we KNOW that ain't happening.
Biden had his chance, and he missed it.

There is something very, very strange taking place this morning. In the last few days; I have not seen one Pro-Trump thread that was not derailed by Cruz trolls. Where are they this morning? Are they sleeping in after the debate last night or just taking the day off?

The inevitability of Trump is starting to sink in. Cruzers are losing the will to fight. 42% in SC looking you in the face is hard to argue with.

If ever there was an event that favored Cruz, it was the sudden death of Scalia. If Ted cannot win with that backdrop in SC, and with so many evangelicals, I suspect he is destined to finish 2nd or 3rd place.
The RINO battle is not over between Rubio, Bush and Kaisich - the "clown car lane".
Any other crisis - terrorist attack here or abroad, financial crisis, etc., favors Trump, I think.
Despite coming a bit over emotional last night, I expect Trump to learn from it and improve. It's what he does.
I believe what Trump said out loud in front of the alter of the GOPe about Bush, needed to be said to get in synch with what the rest of the country knows and believes. Despite the cursing here, I believe many independents (a third the country) were cheering again. Time will tell.
Thanks for posting the viewership numbers from all of the Republican debates. It’s clear that people across the country are losing interest in them. The current numbers are now less than half of where they started out.
In my view, the debates have ceased to inform the voters about the candidates’ relative strengths and weaknesses, and where they stand on the issues. After eight long months of daily information downloads, there’s not much more that can be learned about them, unless it’s some kind of salacious revelation that’s been hidden up til now.
For myself, I stopped watching two debates back. I’ve seen enough, and have made my choice. I’m past the state of arguing about it.

18-29 is a four way tie with Rubio, Cruz, Carson (?) and Trump; 30-44 is Trump 38-26 over Cruz; and 45-64 Trump is 45-17. Those who work for a living overwhelmingly favor Trump.
