Poll: South Carolina still solidly for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton
The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll Donald Trump keeps a large lead in South Carolina, bolstered by support from conservatives and also from evangelical voters, who make up a large share of the electorate here.
Ted Cruz is in second place, but well behind Trump. Cruz has the support of those who consider themselves very conservative, but trails Trump among all conservatives as well as moderates.
John Kasich has gotten a little bounce out of his surprisingly strong showing in New Hampshire, but he may be limited here by the fact that evangelical voters are not as strongly in support of him as non-evangelicals.
For Trump voters, who have been relatively steadfast in their support over the last few months, the percentage who say they've firmly decided on Trump has increased. Trump's lead among evangelicals is up from January, and he has widened his lead among conservatives, too.
In a contest marked by divisions among so-called "insiders" and "outsiders," South Carolina Republicans show a strong preference for campaigns running as the latter, and this poll helps illustrate why. By four to one, South Carolina Republicans describe the "establishment" as a bad thing, and few describe it as a group that knows how to get things done.

Yes, with Elizabeth Warren! But how does that man get 14,000 at a rally? I suspect his stronghold will not be one that even Biden can break! This is the strangest year in politics! I think we're headed for Trump and Sanders as our nominees.
“By four to one, South Carolina Republicans describe the “establishment” as a bad thing”
This is EXACTLY where the big money has brought us. Our party, the Republicans, have VIRTUALLY NO CONNECTION with their own voters.
I’m sure someone there will read this comment, and maybe it will help them understand why I’m voting for Trump and other than shooting people on 5th Ave. (maybe), I WILL NOT CHANGE MY VOTE.
Even calling in the whole family doesn’t seem to be helping Jeb. Actually, it may be doing just the opposite — showing how much of an insider/establishment politician he is with 2 recent former presidents from his family.
“Please clap.”
That should make an interesing political ad from one of the opposition.
that’s funny right there
Coming in 4th or lower in SC could actually be a good thing for Jeb. It might cause him to consider strongly dropping out before going into Florida and being humiliated with a massive loss in his home state.
LOL That picture sums everything up perfectly about the whiney , mothers boy Bush.
The last few polls at Real Clear Politics - South Carolina has Bush going (oldest to newest) 11 - 13 - 10 - 6. Latest poll conducted 2/10-2/12.
All the dope heads wanting Sanders to give them their free drugs
You’ve never heard me say I don’t like Cruz. To me it’s not about like or dislike, it’s about the law, which is clear... He was born in Canada.
a 5 ft 8 canadian latino in the White House after just 3 years in the Senate. Junior written all over him. I went from strongly agree to strongly disagree in the past 2 months. (short men have a strange type of ego —unpalatable)
Based on last night’s performance Trump will win by 30.
Back when FReepers were telling us that Cruz was such an obvious choice he should just be immaculated like Obama was, I started reading about him. If you do so you’ll fina a lifelong trend of putting himself first, above others, and acting as if he were better, smarter, and destined for great things than anyone else. He wouldn’t play team sports because it meant he had to share the glory with others. Even his debate championship was not in the NDT (National Debate Tournament) where two-person teams compete, but in an individual competiton in Canada where he received all the credit himself. His reputation in the Senate does nothing to indicate he’s any different - most of his Senate colleagues can’t stand him.
If you’ve ever known someone who has a similar narcissistic personality it’s pretty easy to see why people feel as they do about Cruz. Except those who will overlook everything else as long as the ideological words he speaks are right - where have we seen that before?
They good part is that Trump beats their combined total by 7.
Can anyone find the cross tabs?
Found it. 77% “won’t change” or “very strong’ in vote. Wow.
So you are a bigot based on a man’s size.
=========================================
To those who say they don/t like Cruz but don/t know why...there/s reasons for your lingering doubts:
<><> Cruz/s industrial strength narcissistic personality...
<><> his lifelong self-absorption
<><> putting himself first above others, always acting as if he were better and smarter than the rest of humanity....
<><> a snob in spades....feeling he is destined for great things.
<><> Cruz wouldn/t play team sports b/c he/d share the glory with others.
<><> His vaunted debate championship was not in the National Debate Tournament of 2-person teams;
<><> Cruz debated in a Canadian tournament where he received all the credit himself.
<><> his reputation in the Senate....where most of his Senate colleagues despise him....is well-deserved. (hat tip bigbob)
Last night on the live thread, many freepers said Trump was over, was unhinged, was deranged, and so much more.
He can't possibly have more than 3-4% /es
Personally, I don’t think last night was Trump’s best showing. I listened to it on my car radio on the way back from the airport and I thought he was better two or three debates ago. maybe he is just growing tired of the debates, as I know I am. But it remains to be seen if anyone in South Carolina even cares about debate “winners” and “losers”.
