âSaddened beyond words." "A shock to the system." These were some of the reactions from lawyers on Saturday following the news of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's death. Some remembered his interactions with clerks and law students, others recalled his argument style and the impact he left from his originalist approach to the Constitution. The National Law Journal asked dozens of top appellate advocates and scholars to share their thoughts.
Viet Dinh, Bancroft PLLC founder: âIt is a shock to the system, literally, to lose his mind and voice. Folks may agree or disagree with particular decisions, but I think everyone recognizes his contribution in putting constitutional and statutory text first in judicial interpretation.â
I’m re-listening to the Heller arguments and Scalia was amazing.
In the dissent for Obergefell v. Hodges, Scalia wrote:
“It is not of special importance to me what the law says about marriage. It is of overwhelming importance, however, who it is that rules me. Today’s decree says that my Ruler, and the Ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast, is a majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court.”
That sentiment was/is echoed by Cruz. The actions of the Court go far beyond whatever case they are judging at the moment.
Which is why I want Cruz as Senate Majority Leader.
Brilliantly stated.
the f....ts on Twitter tonight were destroying him. I got so mad I cancelled the account.
dont know why twitter comments from left wing garbage got in my email but I almost never go on so after arguing for an hour, i just cancelled the thing.
The funniest character who hated Scalia had a twitter account based around the fact that American dolls are too white.
You read that correctly. Ted Kennedy and his damn immigration overhaul let tons of garbage into this country and the garbage trucks need to move the garbage back to where it came.
This is pertinent because this third world refuse votes in dems who pick liberals for the SC. It’s a vicious circle
Good post. Well said
'Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Courtâs opinion should not be taken to castdoubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms byfelons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.'
I want my own 757 like Trump has, too. And the two of us are equally likely to get our wishes . . .Where do you find 50 senators who will vote for Cruz as leader??Not saying I wouldn’t like it, but . . .
Shocked enough to insist upon an autopsy?
