Something very peculiar happened at the Republican debate on Saturday night: When Donald Trump talked, the audience booed. Yet when Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and even John Kasich talked, they got loud cheers and applause.
This happened again and again. It even led a spike in Google searches for "Why are people booing?"
Trump, at one point, scoffed that the audience was made up of "Jeb [Bush]'s special interests and lobbyists."
It turns out this may not be that far-fetched. Prior to the debate, the Republican Party decided not to use a lottery system to decide who should be in the audience. Instead, most tickets went to elected Republican officials, donors, and other workers for the party picked by local, state, and national party officials.

Lindsey Graham is not well liked in this state. He only wins elections because he has a sizeable “war chest” when running for re-election and drowns everybody else out.
How about a link showing proof of that. Debates? What do you mean by "events."
I don’t recall an audience in the JFK and Nixon debate.
No, Ted lies. He lied about losing health insurance recently. He lied in FEC filings about loans. He is a very successful professional politician and they sometimes lie, especially when they want something very badly. It is what they do.
Will it still be unscientific when Trump smokes Cruz in SC?
That’s true. It was to the point that the cheering and hooting was drowning out Trumps answers. I was thinking surely the moderator would at least say something.
It got ridiculous.
LOL!
It’s not a secret..... The GOPe is not denying it.
It’s a rigged debate Establishment audience.
Now proven, this only makes us hate the GOPe even more. And, Trump will surge again following this debacle by these incompetent boobs. Hopefully, a successful third party run by Trump will disembowel the GOP for future generations.
Of course not.
GOPe is a bunch of sell out rats.
And they thought they could pull it off on national television and get away with it...
Trump called them out on it...Talk about deer in the headlights...What's funny is Trump just got done tearing apart Bush for outright lying and then with Cruz's next turn, Cruz tried the same thing...Gutsy but stupid...They sealed their own fate tonight...
Who is paying you NKP_Vet? Are you an independent working for Karl Rove trying to take out both front runners so that the GOPe can push for Bush or Rubio or Kasich?
“There are none so blind .......”
my wife said Ted got booed at one point on immigration.
that shocked me.
Tahtâs what Trump claims, and his supporters parrot it. I see no evidence to support that.
No evidence? The local GOP head says he got TWO DOZEN tickets out of 1,900 attendees. The place was packed with drunk RNC donors/insiders, IMO.
No, Ted lies. He lied about losing health insurance recently. He lied in FEC filings about loans. He is a very successful professional politician and they sometimes lie, especially when they want something very badly. It is what they do.
And when Cruz can’t lie he sets up a Super PAC that accepts millions of dollars in anonymous donations laundered through straw LLCs. Conservative beltway theater performances aside, Tricky Teddy is an old school win at all costs careerist beltway operator.
Everyone calls Ted a liar ... he is ...
This over-the-top behavior of the audience was the type of thing they discouraged in the past. Audiences were instructed to keep their reactions silent.
The attacks gave the DemonRATs ammunition to use against the nominee. A few of the candidates, Carson and Kasich, made that point.
A third party is a possibility. Remember when Trump said, he would support the Republican Party if he was treated fairly? Stacking the deck with a pro-establishment audience against Trump is not being treated fairly. That the GOPe pulled this stunt not once, but twice, shows their utter stupidity.
My friend’s TV show, the Write-in will be a third rail to trump the party fix. He is planning to call certain GOP candidates if they drop out. If they are participants, heads will explode. Can you imagine a write in candidate winning the White House?
