Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.
U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.
"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

Deal with the truth. Our country is reeling. We are in a crucial election year and sadly lost one of our beloved heroes. IF the next president does have to nominate a justice I want to make sure that he chooses a great one. I do not trust Trump. “http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/423196/trump-praises-his-sister-pro-abortion-extremist-judge-ramesh-ponnuru
A muslim probably, an Hindu, never!
Senator Cruz can probably score some points tonight off this in one sentence:
“Whoever Barack Obama nominates, I will filibuster.”
“The financial paperwork may well already be done.”
I think I mentioned that all steps are most likely finished.
It was probably finished Thursday. Then the “convenient” death on Friday. The paperwork is just waiting to be accessed in some White House system and printed out.
Maybe even two. Remember, Bill Clinton had to nominate three people for Attorney General.
It will be Kamala Harris, the California Attorney General. The decision to make her the next Supreme Court appointment was made even by Valerie Jarrett before the 2012 election.
Least of our problems...could be Jarrett, Michelle, Muslim, Holder...
Don’t worry about Trump=on Wed or Thurs he said would like to model appointments on Thomas and Scalia....
Stop circular firing squad.
If it’s 4 to 4, there’s a no decision, which sustains the lower court.
The GOP did it before in the past. A Republican-controlled Congress increased the number of justices to ten(to prevent the Court from ruling against Lincoln's actions, I think).
Then after Lincoln died and Vice President Andrew Johnson, a Democrat, became President, the Republican-controlled Congress lowered the number of Supreme Court justices to seven. This prevented Johnson from naming anybody to the Supreme Court. Once Grant, a Republican, became president in 1869, Congress increased the number of justices back to nine again, where it has been ever since.
For specific details on the number of justices at any point during that time, see my old post: [post 382]
That’s why we have to hold his feet to the fire. This is the hill to die on and we need to fight fire with napalm
They could be the Court that finally declares the Constitution unconstitutional!
I would. But a lot of good it would do since I live in commieforica.
No one on this thread cares whom you trust or don’t trust. We all have an opinion but this isn’t where it belongs.
Yes.
That makes me suspicious too.
Bad mojo.
Good luck with that. If we can filibuster one, we can filibuster two just as easily.
Obama compiling two short lists
1. Marxists he can nominate to Supreme Court
2. GOP Senators he coerce or shame into voting to confirm. Mark Kirk will be at the top of this list.
If somehow the GOP has the stones to delay this, it is more important to hold the Senate so a Democrat majority can’t vote to confirm the Marxist after they are sworn in but before Obama leaves office.
Yes, it is where it belongs. Cannot hide from what we are dealing with even though a great American died. The fight for his replacement and to honor his legacy is just beginning. If you do not care what I think ..don’t respond. I could care less what YOU think.
