Full Title: Deputy's body cam footage debunks accusations of racially charged language, physical force during arrest
KERSHAW COUNTY, SC A Camden man was charged after an officer's body camera footage debunked accusations that the officer used racially charged language and physical force while taking the suspect into custody.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies were dispatched to a fast-food restaurant in Lugoff on Feb. 2 in reference to a fight in progress. When deputies arrived, Matthews said they separated two groups of females and one male with a baseball bat which were involved in a physical altercation.
Matthews said as one deputy pulled some of the females aside to get a statement and to de-escalate the situation, 20-year-old Tiamo Drakeford drove up, got out of his vehicle and approached one of the parties involved in the fight. As Drakeford walked towards the group, he engaged some of the females in conversation and the situation began to escalate again.
Matthews said a deputy instructed Drakeford to leave the area, but Drakeford allegedly became belligerent and cursed at one of the deputies. Drakeford was then taken into custody and charged with public disorderly conduct and transported to jail.
On Feb. 5, Drakeford went to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office were he filed a written complaint against a deputy, alleging that the deputy pushed him and used racially charged language toward him at the time of his arrest, Matthews said.
The officer who was accused of the misconduct was wearing a body camera at the time of the incident, which was submitted for review, Matthews said.
Matthews said at no time did the deputy push Drakeford, swear at him or use any racially charged language.
A warrant was filed for Drakeford's arrest for filing a false police report of an alleged felony and he was taken into custody, Matthews said.
Drakeford is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center on a $3,500 bond. Matthews said Drakeford was recently out on bond for an unrelated grand larceny charge.

Little thug should go to jail for 5 years, minimum.
He’s willing to to ruin the cop’s life. His pathetic life should be made miserable.
Video also showed Michael Brown robbing the convenience store and assaulting the clerk.
Video be racis’.
belligerent and cursed at one of the deputies.
Pot calling the kettle black.
Yep, dey allz gotdems tape runnin’ in der headz... EVERYDAM thing is about the bad whitey...
and ALL 98% of that ‘color’ vote Liberal and all Liberals call us’ins racist.
I (and other FReepers) opined months ago that the blacks that pushed for these body cameras would be the first to ask they be discontinued; the truth is usually not the perps’ friend.

Nailed it!
Mixed feelings on those camera’s.
Today we see the good it did.
The bad part was the other day a police officer was charged by a naked teen minority and was shot, and I suggested all this junk a police officer has to carry puts them at a disadvantage if they are too PC scared to shoot the perps.
Some police now days would rather risk being killed than having to fill out the paperwork and be under the critical eye of those that scream Jack-booted thugs every chance they get. I was called a boot-licker on another FR page the other day.
I could settle on all officers having these recorders and being allowed to defend themselves if attacked.
Most of the time any side of a legal incident opposing the showing of existing video of said event is the side in the wrong.
Thanks; the store owner that posted the Michael Brown footage had his business torched because it exposed the truth - and now many cops will be able to show the same.
A cop I know was protected by his mic (affixed to his tie) when a black motorist accused him of using racial slurs. The motorist was smart enough not to file an official complaint, but made a verbal accusation at HQ. When he was shown the evidence, he disappeared (and officially nothing could be done about it - though I doubt that is true). At least a record of the false accusation should have been entered to prevent a repeat against a cop (or anyone) without similar protection.
Love it that the libs are hoist with their own petard.
Good. Racebaiters gonna be charged.pp
This won’t be the last run in this guy has with the cops. The fact that he lied, filed a false police report and was debunked by bodycam video will follow him for the rest of his life. No police dept or court will ever consider anything he says to be credible on it’s own merits.
Pity, that.
So something is bunk, and then you debunk it?
They must have a handbook for those on the supply side of crime that tell them what to lie about when caught.
The policy should be to only accept official complaints and then prosecute for obvious false accusations.
