It isn't just labor costs that these companies are fleeing. Increasingly burdensome environmental regulations are playing a significant role was well. Ford recently moved a die-cast manufacturing facility to Mexico when it became cost-prohibitive to comply with U.S. environmental laws.
“Good ole Free Traitor vette sticking up up for the scam.”
Well smarty, tell us how it’s going to work. I’d like to see all the jobs that have left ths country return, and I am a Trump supporter so I want to see that happen. That said, just mandating the repatriation of jobs without some changes here isn’t going to cut it. The UAW (and other trade unions for that matter) have priced themselves and the companies that they hold hostage out of the world market. I have see numbers that show that the domestic automakers total labor cost per vehicle is at least one third more than their foreign competitors who are building their vehicles here. It’s an analog of what we’ve seen with the costs associated with government employees (actually it’s the same union bull$hit with them too). Unions will ultimately kill themselves, along with the companies/country unless we are able to break their “legal entitlements” to benefits that are not sustainable.

Very true, and here in California, the envirowhackos have really taken root. Oil-based paints are no longer available. They now have envrionmental “fees” when you purchase a 2x4. Our gasoline is still expensive because it’s “different.” But you wait, what’s going on here, will spread across the country.
Only 10% of manufacturing workers are unionized and the trend is downward. Ford is making profits, big profits. The question is should Ford use US resources and US labor to produce products for the US market? The answer is yes. As for taxes I would lower taxes for all manufactures. But that isn't going to happen today. Tariffs are a legitimate form of taxation and have side benefit of preventing what Ford did. Do you think Ford would do this if there was a standing 25% tariff on imported vehicles from Mexico? Do you know anything about Henry Ford? Would he condone this?
Cruz, Rubio, Trump...what they said about Trade & Guns in their announcement speech. Stunning comparison. http://freerepublic.com/focus/news/3395582/posts?page=136#136

But not in the automaking industry, which is what we’re talking about here! And sure, you can tax Ford on it’s off-shore production, but all that does is make them more un-competitive here and make Americans buy more foreign-made cars! If Ford thought it could successfully compete here in the US, do you really think they’d be moving to Mexico? Just the environmental costs here are astronomical, and they are unending, because the EPA doesn’t give a $hit whether or not Ford survives here. Also, you might tell us all how Ford will survive paying their retired UAW workers the “benefits” they have “earned” here? Actually, Ford and the others are simply reaping the “benefits” of their prior managment’s give-a-ways to their union workers over the past 50 years, just like our government has done to it’s workforce.
Answer Yes they would! Are you saying Ford is going to lower their price due to a lowered production cost? Ford is making profits now on each vehicle. The question is how much more they can make thru labor arbitrage over an international border to make ADDITIONAL profit. These are political as well as economic issues.

That’s the problem, their margins are not good. Ford got through w/o a bailout byt the skin of it’s teeth. They were not healtly either, but they had a better product line with the SHTF, and figured they could get through without selling their company’s soul to Obola like the other two. Ford is not swimmng in profits today.
If they are living in Mexico working at a Ford plant, how can they be "wetbacks"?
