Former Mexican President: We're Not Paying for 'Stupid' Wall
NBC News ^ | 8 Feb 2016 | by Brian Latimer

A former Mexican president had some tough words when asked about GOP candidate Donald Trump's much-touted plan to build a border wall that he says will be paid for by Mexico.

"We are not going to pay any single cent for such a stupid wall! And it's going to be completely useless," said former Mexican president Felipe Calderón when asked about this at the AmCham Egypt for Business Conference on Sunday.

Calderón told CNBC's Hadley Gamble his country will not be funding the construction of the wall, also adding that while Trump blames Mexican migration for the majority of illegal immigration into the U.S., the net migration between the countries has flipped. According to a Pew Research report in November, more Mexicans were emigrating from the U.S. than entering.

and/or totally close the doors to new immigrants for 5 years.

That is what the Mexican government fears greatly. No illegals allowed = no pressure relief valve for Mexico.

Make no mistake, we will get a wall.

The only question is whether it will be built under a free administration to protect our borders, or socialist regime to keep us in...

“Maybe we should charge a transaction fee (a tax) for all money transfers from the US to Mexico? That’ll pay for the wall.”

Yes, that’s what I’ve always said. It’ll do some good while we’re rounding up the illegals and deporting them.

It seems that he’d rather deal with the millions of working poor who would be at risk from US-imposed sanctions and tarrifs. Paying for the wall would be a lot cheaper.

“Good fences make good neighbors” - doesn’t he want to be a good neighbor?

We have to get back to the NAFTA agreement...and amend it. If you flee the US, your goods will be subject to a tariff.

In other words, lets put the fairness in NAFTA.

It was a bad deal.

He might be right about self-deportation. After all, there are no jobs Americans wouldn’t do, and those openings are getting fewer.

red herring ....

Not so much the Mexicans (although a problem in the past), but the Mexican facilitation of ANYone coming in through our southern border

The issue is illegal immigration and the import of contraband ... whether drugs, goods or diseases.

We want a break from being invaded and we have the power and resources to accomplish that

So we will

And you just happen to have been a major beneficiary of our blindness or lackadaisical attitude for decades .... you'll pay taxes henceforth.

Trump has the right idea(s)

Let someone ELSE pay all the taxes

Maybe we should charge a transaction fee (a tax) for all money transfers from the US to Mexico? That'll pay for the wall.

Nully's Modest Tax proposal:

1. Eliminate ALL corporate tax.
1a. Eliminate ALL depletion allowances and depreciation allowances.
2. Eliminate ALL current IRS regulations.
3. Set the individual tax rate at 10% regardless of income.
3a. Perquisites at taxed at 10% of cost.
3b. Withhold at the rate of 11%, to get a refund you have to file taxes, but there is no legal imperative to file.
4. Tax ALL money coming into the country at 0% (yes, ZERO%).
5. Tax ALL money leaving the country at 10%.

Hell, simply using the money we give them “officially” works. Why have foreign support for a country that deliberately promotes our invasion?

I am of the opinion that we can use the illegal prisoners to make compressed earth blocks. Then build a rail line that runs parallel to the border, use the aforementioned blocks to build stations (garrisons) along the border to house the border patrol, and finally, use those blocks to build the wall.

Probably too few around these parts have laid their own eyes on the Berlin Wall. It doesn't really matter why it is built, once it is in place it can work both ways, as you noted...

One of the things that always amazes me about this conversation of illegal immigration via Mexico, is the complaint of Mexican folks that the wait time to come to the US legally is north of 20 years. They say (and others here agree) that this “proves” that our immigration system is broken. This is their justification for breaking our laws.

No.

What this proves is that the nation of Mexico IS BROKEN. This goes for the rest of the Central American feeder nations. When the mother ship needs to EXPORT tens of millions to another country in order to keep the peace, it is NOT the receiving country that is broken.

Just look at how long children (not long) get free public education in those countries, and when they are cut loose for their families to fend for themselves. Look up the minimum wage rates in those countries. Then compare them to the $ 15.00 per hr crowd in the US. Now imagine how that minimum wage increase will look to to a poor citizen in Central America WITH A WIDE OPEN BORDER.

Never accept the idea that the US is breaking up families. Central American politicians are prying them apart with an anvil, for their own cynical ends.
