When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative

When Ted Cruz Said John Roberts Is *Undoubtedly A Principled Conservative*

During Wednesday*s debate, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said his past support for the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts *was a mistake and I regret that*.

Cruz argued during CNN*s Reagan library debate that former President George W. Bush nominated Roberts *because it was the easier choice* and he wasn*t *willing to spend political capital to put a strong judicial conservative on the court.*

But as critics are pointing out, Cruz, who worked on the Bush campaign and later in the administration as a lawyer, was effusive in his praise of Roberts* nomination in 2005.

*John Roberts should be a quick confirm,* he wrote in the National Review.

*As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him,* Cruz said.

During the debate, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush defended his brother’s selection of Roberts, who has angered conservatives for upholding Obamacare, by saying broadly: *I think he is doing a good job.*

*You can rewrite history I guess Ted,* Bush said, *but the simple fact is, you supported him because he had all the criteria that you would have thought would have made a great justice. And I think he is doing a good job.*

Yeah, we know that. We’re trying to rationalize our support for Trump here though, so please stop with the logic and reason. Thanks.

Cruz lacks Biblical discernment, i.e. emotional or spiritual or social discernment.

If John Roberts was his role model and “mentor”, Cruz should have sensed the glaring imperfection that opened the door to one of the biggest catastrophes in the history of this nation.

Cruz lacked discernment. “Admitting a mistake” doesn’t cover it.

Cruz either wasn’t as close to Roberts as he said he was, or he lacks discernment.

As Cruz calls himself a Christian, this is an ENORMOUS red flag.

But listen, Cruz is done. The GOPe is on to pumping up little Rubio now.

Coulter was critical of him, because he was a stealth nominee, not because he wasn’t conservative. About the only way to get confirmed as a conservative is to be so non-descript, the liberals cannot find anything.

And really, with her track record lately, who here is using her as a barometer?

Anyone who follows the campaign knows it was Cruz who advocated for his friend.

Please excuse the lapse in my memory, because I can't recall the name of the judge that Cruz lobbied for, but I can tell you that it was NOT John Roberts.

Once Bush made his selection it was Cruz's job to get behind the appointment and help get the nomination confirmed. I won't fault him for doing his job.

I will fault you for implying that John Roberts was Cruz's preferred candidate. He was not.

I did not trust the guy then either, but have no proof except my own memory.

That is an incredible statement. Why did you not trust him then? What possible writing or decision or aspect of his career made you not trust him? Coulter says it was because she did not have enough information. But he answered all the questions in the Senate confirmation hearings just as any conservative would have wanted.

What made you different?

Who says Cruz hasn’t made a change? You got a telegraph into the Cruz campaign?

Cruz is not a conservative. Conservatives don’t pretend they didn’t know they were Canadian citizens since birth.

Who says Cruz hasn't made a change?

If he did, why would he EVER double down on that shaming letter?

Not so fast. Cruz described Roberts as his “mentor and friend”... http://www.texastribune.org/2012/07/09/cruz-and-roberts-go-way-back/

In fact, this article describes just how deep Cruz’s GOPe Bushie roots go...

... Cruz got Roberts to fly in for the Bush recount.

LOL. What a complete GOPe disaster Cruz is.

Only a supporter of Donald Trump could claim that Ted Cruz lacks discernment for failing to divine how John Roberts would rule on a case, one among many, many years later.

The same Trump supporters who (very unchristian like) judge that Cruz lacks discernment because he is a Christian, will excuse Trump for his bankruptcies, his divorces, his support of abortion, his hiring of illegals, his greasing public officials to advances crony capitalist ventures, on and on and on! Should these sins of Donald Trump which are very real and betray real guilt be excused because we all know that Trump is a phony Christian?

How do we know? Because he is a rank narcissist. Before you accuse me of judging a man's religion, remember who brought up the subject. One day Trump supporters attack cruise and his father for being too religious and the next day they attack Cruz for not possessing this religious and spiritual quality of "discernment" in a context which wholly distorts the biblical meaning.

Should we vote for Trump because he is not a Christian? Should we support him because like Clinton and Obama he only pretends to a Christian faith? A pretender, we may not accuse Trump of any lack of discernment? Ain't it interesting how Trump supporters are not troubled by his discernment that abortion was perfectly fine but are troubled by Cruz' assessment of someone else's assessment of a wholly secular statute?

The final absurdity, the implication that Cruz is GOPe!

When Trump supporters punctuate their posts with "LOL" you can be sure either they are losing the argument or they have loosed all mooring to reality.

Cruz vouched for Roberts to work the 2000 recount as well as SCOTUS, calling him his “mentor and friend”.

Cruz lacks discernment and Roberts is a horrific red flag that Cruz is either not a good judge of character or a good Christian.

Plus, no Christian would pretend he didn’t know he was a Canadian citizen from birth until just a few months ago.

And Cruz is a major GOPe shill. Playing us for stupid. Sarah Palin got it about Cruz just in time.

Back before Obamacare, we ALL thought Robert’s was a principled Conservative. It was a rude awakening when we learned he wasn’t.

Agree with you totally Roberts fooled everyone, and his record is mostly bad because of his terrible Obamacare flip flops.

But I knew Roberts was an elitist schmuck, his whole life was clerking for Rehnquist and then a big law firm. It made me sick when conservatives spoke of his “courage”as if he were a war hero.

these are enormous endorsements. Cruz lacks discernment.

Cruz denies he made a mistake respecting the voting letter.

You accuse Cruz of being incapable of admitting a mistake.

Cruz says he made a mistake respecting the support of Roberts in an article a couple of posts away from here.

Would you like to retract your accusation?

Nevermind, I know the answer, you support Trump
