Trump: Unlike Cruz, ‘I Have a Heart,’ I’ll Enact Universal Health Coverage
National Review ^ | January 31, 2016 12:20 PM | Tom S. Elliott

In an interview this morning on This Week, Donald Trump cited his desire to "help people" as the reason he favors government-funded universal health coverage. Unlike Ted Cruz, Trump said, "I have a heart."

"If somebody has no money and they're lying in the middle of the street and they're dying, I'm going to take care of that person," Trump said.

Noting that I will gladly vote for Trump if nominated, please consider the following.

Trump supporters need to get him up to speed with the reality that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for INTRAstate healthcare purposes. So Trump needs to be campaigning for a healthcare amendment to the Constitution on the campaign trail imo.

Otherwise, Trump will unthinkingly be following in the footsteps of Constitution-ignoring socialist FDR by working national healthcare outside the framework of the Constitution if he becomes president.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump, or whatever conservative they elect, they need to also elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will work within its Section 8-limited powers to support the new president.

Also, consider that such a Congress would probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.

That’s not even the rub—the rub is that he’s so not - grounded in the Constitution that he’d contemplate or enact more federal (unConstitutionl) top-down overreaching programs. But he knows really really great, great government planners, really the best and they like him a lot.

That Ezekiel Emanuel is one deranged, power hungry professor. It must run in his family. He’ll be reaching his special age in a few years, and we’ll see if he volunteers to gracefully check out.

“DOES NEED CRUZ, AND CRUZ’s KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL RE THE CONSTITUTION “

His knowledge seems to consist of making himself look like an arrogant snob. He really thinks FAR too much of himself, and I’m sick of him wrapping himself in the constitution as if he was the guy that wrote it.

I would be shocked if he could get a majority of people in the HoR to actually go along with anything he proposes.

Looked at another way, Trump is simply pointing out that getting rid of Obamacare will NOT result in people dying in the street.

Let's not confuse Obamacare (an insurance law) with health care. Obamacare has absolutely positively nothing to do with having the government pay people's medical bills. Trump said the same thing back in August. When asked who would pay people's unpaid medical bills, Trump said the government would. This goes way beyond what existing law says. It gets us closer to single-payer than anything the Democrats have ever done. Not even Mitt Romney has proposed anything this bad.

Universal health coverage for the poor already exists.

Medicaid acceptance is not automatic, so a lot of people will remain uncovered. It's not universal, coverage varies from state to state. And it's funded in large part by the states themselves. And if they choose not to participate, as many refused to agree to Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, then what?

It's bankrupt. Only by the "standards" of government accounting can it be considered "solvent." It cannot meet its obligations to those now paying. In other words: not only bankrupt, but a criminal enterprise.

I'm not collecting Medicare, and don't "love what I am going to get." It's a Ponzi scheme; unsustainable and completely out of control. Just because Trump wants to Medicare-ize the entire system doesn't mean I'm leaving my brain outside the rally. You 'bots can do that, I won't. http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2014/08/31/medicare-no-longer-such-a-budget-buster/#7dd58b207df9

The test for Medicaid did not change.

If you have money or assets you don’t qualify.

If you don’t, you do.

Further, Trump’s plan to get U. S. Citizens back to work will impact Medicaid numbers favorably.

Government will spend less on Medicaid.

It will take in more in payroll taxes.

It will pay out less in other support dollars.

"So what is Trump taking about other than Canadian-style socialized medicine?"

You got it! And if anyone else can't figure that out, especially after da Trump talked to the Clinton with Sexual Predator proclivities for the better part of an hour just before announcing his Trumpeting Crampaign, they don't get it!!

Never vote for any celebrity candidate, because they'll break your country's, city's or county's heart every time!!! (there will be little difference between him and Hitlery) Many corporate leaders would prefer government/taxpayer paid health insurance so they could get clear out of having to deal with it (especially paying for it) all the time.

“Awwww, and there it is.”

An article whose headline is lie. A blatantly dishonest tacking of a quote married to the authors agenda-driven assumption.

Yeah there is is, just like we expect from the Cruz supporters these days. If you have to fake it, oh well!

Either that or you people are illiterate.

Right now I am reading James MacGregor Burns bio on FDR and he wasn’t a Socialist. In fact FDR did not have any rooted Ideology or Philosophy at all. Basically he was looking for solutions he thought would work. Now I will agree that he had a lot of Lefties in his Brain Trust that were Socialists and got his ear on things.

Trump will need first rate advisers to help him.

Nobody knows what Trump really stands for because he’ll say anything and his positions keep changing. We do know that he has supported single payer socialized medicine in the not so distant past.

But no matter what Trump really believes, he launched yet another personal attack at Ted Cruz calling him heartless and implying that he wants people dying in the streets.

Once again, Trump attacks from the left, where he generally resides.

On every Donald Trump thread, it’s as sure as the sun will rise in the east that you and/or your fellow Cruz supporters will show up to tell everyone why the world would have been a better place had Donald Trump had never been born and why Ted Cruz is the only one that can save the planet from certain doom.

If only you were able to support your chosen candidate as I’ve addressed you thus far, with a modicum of respect for differing opinions, I wouldn’t be writing this response.

Quite the opposite. You and your fellow cruzbots show up on every Trump thread to spew your hateful venom, lies, exaggerations and insults while ridiculing everyone that doesn’t agree with you that Ted Cruz is the greatest thing since sliced bread and how you’re personally offended at how stupid we all are to not see how brilliant and right you all are.

Here’s some news for you. Your childish antics are not the least bit persuasive. In fact, you’ve probably convinced anyone that was still unsure which candidate to support but wasn’t quite sure, to decide against Cruz simply because they wouldn’t want to be associated with lunatics like you.
I’d be willing to bet that you haven’t lost Donald Trump a single voter with your lame behavior.

You may be under the mistaken impression that once this election campaign is over, all will be forgiven and forgotten. That may be true for some, but I can tell you right now it will not be forgiven and forgotten by me and I suspect I’m not the only one that feels this way.

From this moment forward you are dead to me. You may as well not exist and I will never acknowledge your presence again, except to repost this comment to remind everyone present what a loser you are.

If I ever see a post that you make I will not click on it. If it’s of interest to me I’ll go to the source where you found it but I will never contribute to your “click count”.

So, farewell loser. I’d like to say it was nice knowing you but it wasn’t.

And that's putting the problem back on the states

Where it belongs, because Congress has no specifically enumerated power to provide healthcare.
