Cruz: Trump 'Owes At Least $480 Million Right Now' [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | January 31, 2016 | Derek Draplin

Posted on 01/31/2016 7:27:11 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday accused front-runner Donald Trump of owing $480 million, noting "it could be billions."

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday" the Texas senator told host Chris Wallace that his own loans to run for senate were disclosed and also accused Trump of owing millions.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now, and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace.

"He knows this loan story is completely nonsense," Cruz said. "It's also the height of hutzpah - for someone who owes hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions of dollars, to attack Heidi and me because we put our life savings into running for senate. And the statement that the loans weren't disclosed, he knows is flat out false. The loans were disclosed."

Wallace then pressed Cruz to explain what Trump owes.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace. "And by the way with loans when Heidi and I take loans, we pay them back."

"Donald's declared bankruptcy four times, and so for him to sit there owing hundreds of millions or billions or who knows, and to criticize Heidi and me for putting our entire net worth into the campaign is astonishing," Cruz said. "It is not honest, especially because the loans were disclosed, they were publicly disclosed at the time."

In this election we MUST vote Republican...I like a lot of the Republican candidates, all the way down to the bottom tier, and dislike two. I am non partisan, and over the years I have voted both sides, too, but like a freeper said earlier, we MUST vote for the Republican that can win in this election, and I agree. Right now it is Trump...if that changes, my vote changes. It is too important. I think if Trump gets in he’s a big enough man to offer Cruz a position in the administration...but it can’t be V.P. this time around until a judicial decision is made on his citizenship. I wish they would quit slanging each other, less said soonest mended.

What a hoot. Cruz's mother = American.

And Cruz's father... [Let's unpack that a bit]

"....But look closer at the bolder portion. It never says that the father has to be a citizen of the United States at the time the child is born. All it says is that citizenship "shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States." It is indisputable that Rafael Cruz was in the United States for a period of time prior to both Ted's birth and his marriage to native born American citizen Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson in 1969. He fled Cuba in 1957 at the age of 18, arriving in Texas. There, he attended the University of Texas, graduating with a degree in mathematics in 1961. He even married his first wife there, Julia Ann Garza, in 1959. They later divorced, but not before he had two daughters with her. He was also granted political asylum in 1961 upon his graduation from UT."....

Yes, it looks as if Donald Trump is “self-funding” his business, as well as his campaign. That is the kind of thinking we need for this country!

“You CAN'T make someone out to be “bought” because of loans and then demand opposite standards for someone else.”

You can't make that statement without deliberately committing the fallacies of too few alternatives and cherry picking. The pertinent qualifiers (alternatives) are being pointed out in this thread. They have to be ignored to make the statement quoted above. When logically necessary qualifiers are deliberately ignored the “point” is fatally flawed.

Some people like John Hawkins at Townhall have grave doubts about Trump’s ability to self-fund his campaign.

http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2016/01/09/i-like-donald-trump-but-i-dont-think-he-can-win-a-general-election-n2101924/page/full

There are a number of reasons for that, but the largest one is that Trump couldn’t be financially competitive. That may seem bizarre since we’re talking about a man whose name is synonymous with wealth, but even Donald Trump doesn’t have enough money to self-finance a general election run at the presidency.

Keep in mind that Hillary Clinton and the Super Pacs supporting her will spend north of 3 BILLION DOLLARS. On the other hand, if you take away the value of his name, Trump’s net worth is probably somewhere in the 3-4 billion dollar range and most of it is tied up in assets.

Ask yourself if Donald Trump is really going to sell Trump Tower, the Trump International Hotel, his golf courses and his other properties at cut rate prices to pour the money into his political campaign. It may not even be possible, but even if it is, do you really think Trump would liquidate most of his fortune to run for President? When you consider that Trump has been so tight-fisted during the primary that he might run the first Presidential campaign ever to turn a profit, it seems very unlikely.

On top of that, keep in mind that Donald Trump has made the fact that he’s self-funding a central part of his messaging.

If Trump were to win and change his mind, not only would it hurt him with his core supporters, it probably wouldn’t be all that effective. Trump’s fund raising operation so far has understandably been mediocre and the Super Pacs that were gearing up to support him were asked to stand down.

Those Super Pacs were particularly important because there are hard limits on what rich supporters can give to campaigns, but not on what they can give to a Super Pac. Without major help from Super PACs, it’s highly unlikely that Donald Trump could win a general election.

Imagine a campaign where Hillary and her Super Pacs spend more than 3 billion dollars and Trump barely manages to stockpile 500 million in his war chest. In every swing state, Hillary would have a better get out the vote operation, better staffing and she would be able to blanket the airwaves with her ads while Trump couldn’t compete. In a race like that, Hillary could win in a walk EVEN IF she goes to prison over her email server.

“I’d love to have that little of exposure credit wise”

Cruz is going after the LIVs with these comments and the VOTER VIOLATION mailers.

Cruz can’t understand his own financial reporting forms or a health insurance policy document apparently. I’m sure not going to trust his interpretation of Trump’s balance sheet.

Ok, I’m gonna have to jump in here. The “Trump Organization” (good grief, what a stupid name) is about the size and scope of a modest manufacturing concern. “Mega-corporation” isn’t exactly a term I would use. In actuality, Donnie runs a REIT supplemented with the income he can generate from whatever he can slap his ugly orange face on.

The big difference is that he could never put together a real REIT, as no legitimate investor with an ounce of sense would come within a hundred feet of Donnie’s awful Real estate deals. Sure, he could probably con a few suckers blinded by his “celebrity” into something, then laugh his way all the way to bankruptcy court with their money in his stubby fingers...but I hardly call that successful.

Yes I thought you were laughably weak posting about Glenn Beck in support of Trump considering he endorsed Cruz. LoL!

Cruz might want to note that those are secured loans.

For business not a political campaign. No one is going to be able to influence President Trump because they helped finance a golf course.

Can you believe there actually are people who want to trust the COUNTRY to someone who: didn’t know he was a Canadian citizen until 15 months ago and “forgot” to file the proper election campaign paper work?

Trump may be self funding his campaign but certainly not his business. Like all big businesses, there is overhead. In case you decided to not read the op’s post, trump has quite a large sum of money tied up in loans. And have pulled bankruptcy 4 times which left the bank owning the loan while he walked.

Now, I’m sure we will all get to hear how savvy trump is... how we are playing checkers while he is playing chess.... All the silly catch phrases from the Palin years.

I’ve pulled the lever for Republicans since Reagan. I’ve watched the Republican party stray further and further from their core values over the years.

After Romney’s loss, the light came on. If you don’t please the base, you are toast. I’m voting for Cruz.

Trump can kiss my lilly white butt.

Ovbiously Glenn changed his position, he flipped.

LOL!!

Trump said Beck begged and begged for an interview. Trump never really knew it - he’s busy - when Trump finally heard from his people Beck wanted an interview it was too late. Beck had flipped to hating Trump thinking he was deliberately being ignored.

Shallow - not a high quality endorsement.
