Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday accused front-runner Donald Trump of owing $480 million, noting "it could be billions."
Appearing on "Fox News Sunday" the Texas senator told host Chris Wallace that his own loans to run for senate were disclosed and also accused Trump of owing millions.
"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now, and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace.
"He knows this loan story is completely nonsense," Cruz said. "It's also the height of hutzpah - for someone who owes hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions of dollars, to attack Heidi and me because we put our life savings into running for senate. And the statement that the loans weren't disclosed, he knows is flat out false. The loans were disclosed."
Wallace then pressed Cruz to explain what Trump owes.
"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace. "And by the way with loans when Heidi and I take loans, we pay them back."
"Donald's declared bankruptcy four times, and so for him to sit there owing hundreds of millions or billions or who knows, and to criticize Heidi and me for putting our entire net worth into the campaign is astonishing," Cruz said. "It is not honest, especially because the loans were disclosed, they were publicly disclosed at the time."
.... .the creditors get paid ....
Often pennies on the dollar.
One of the ways Trump differs from most politicians is that he owns the downside.
Sure Trump has greased palms to get things done. He doesn’t deny it or hide it.
That’s part of his appeal. Joe Sixpack knows that has to be the way things are, and to hear someone admit it is refreshing.
probably so
it’s over you can go home now CW
41% to 12% in the latest Reuters poll .. it’s oh va
Where did Ted say they are delinquent?
Does trump owe big money to big banks?
Has trump defaulted on loans?
Does Cruz owe big money to big banks?
Has Cruz defaulted?
Does any of that mean either of them are unfit to lead?
No.
“Cruz canât understand his own financial reporting forms or a health insurance policy document apparently. Iâm sure not going to trust his interpretation of Trumpâs balance sheet.”
LOL! So true!
I'll NEVER be able to vote for Trump, now.
Ping to libbylu. You were right the whole time...
In addition to ad hominem, strawman.
Trump’s net worth is at most 4.5 billion, so that would be 10%. His debt is a minimum of 480 million, and, in the words of the ad, it could be “billions”. The point is that if the banks decide to rein him in, they could bring down his organization, just as they did with past bankruptcies.
So why can’t he pay off his debts? He is owned by Goldman Sachs and Wall Street Bankers. He owes a half a billion dollars. That is saying something.
I can see you are going to need another redo.
Ted sounds a little desperate. Maybe a few more shaming letters need to go out. :-)
Plus it is chapter 11 and not chapter 7. All of them, iirc. That means all creditors were paid from Trump’s money, the depth were restructured, and no one walked away from obligations.
A chapter 11 is the good kind.
What makes perfect sense is that Ted didn’t disclose those loans on his FEC form - not that he took out the loans. Oh yeah,he lied about where the money came from too.
I've listened to Trump talk about Cruz's failure to properly disclose personal loans from Goldman Sachs and Citibank and I never heard him mention Heidi Cruz in that context...so I find it interesting that Ted Cruz now claims Trump attacked his wife and in effect uses Heidi to shield himself from criticism.
Very Nixonian...
Not true. Don’t make stuff up.
Nice...
I’d be willing to bet Trump doesn’t owe anything personally, but his LLCs or corporations owe mortgages.
And further, I’d be willing to bet they are non-recourse financing.
How do you know Trump owes half billion dollars? Because “Cruz said so”??
