2 remaining jail escapees arrested in San Francisco

The two remaining fugitives who escaped from an Orange County jail last week were arrested by San Francisco police, authorities said Saturday.

The suspects were arrested at around 9 a.m. in the city's park district police area, according to San Francisco police officer Grace Gatpandan.

Officials had said Friday that Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, were probably in the Bay Area and might be headed to Fresno.

No details about the arrests were immediately available. The Orange County Sheriff's Department scheduled a press briefing for noon in Santa Ana.

The location of the arrest was not provided. But the SFPD park district covers area bordered by Geary Boulevard, Steiner, Market, Upper Market, 7th Avenue and the east end of Golden Gate Park.

A third escapee, Bac Duong, surrendered to authorities Friday, a week after the three busted out of the Santa Ana lockup.

The arrests cap a massive manhunt for the three men, who were all charged with violent crimes.

At first, the fugitives were still believed to be in Southern California. But over the last day, authorities said they received information that Tieu and Nayeri were in the Bay Area. A motel manager in San Jose told local TV stations late Friday that he recognized Tieu and said the pair might have stayed at his motel for two nights.

Duong had traveled north with the men but later returned alone to Santa Ana where he gave himself up, according to Lt. Jeff Hallock, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Good! These people were seriously bad news. And of course the jail ESL teacher helped them escape - sort of like the recent jailbreak in NY State, where some ditzy, love-struck woman employee handed over the plans to a creep named David Sweat (now back in jail, fortunately).

Yes, all three are bad actors but I read earlier that Nayeri is the worst and he’s the one the teacher loved. She and other women who’ve pulled this have to have serious mental problems.

The psychology of those who help these men seems quite noticeable in hindsight and inmates talk. The inside of a prison is a strange place to begin with, but how/why there is not more attention spent on the psychological health of the staff and rumors among the inmates is puzzling.

Searched for something interesting and found it earlier.

I agree. It’s a good one.
