Unbelievable – Ted Cruz Campaign Sends Out Personal “Shaming Letters” To Iowa Voters…
conservativetreehouse ^ | 1/30/2016 | sundance

Posted on 01/29/2016 10:28:45 PM PST by 20yearsofinternet

The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.

The text reads:

"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".

In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

I’d say that in this case, Trump has a better grasp of the Golden Rule than Cruz and his team do.

It’s not an invasion of privacy but it is poor marketing.

Your voting record is public information.

Ground zero of presidential politics. We’ve seen it all. I think the RNC has done this with email fundraisers too. Not saying I like or that it makes sense for Iowa by the Cruz campaign but it’s not something new.

Yes but who knows this information about their neighbors. How many times have you compiled this info about your neighbors? Cruz team did the extensive work with donations.

But Trump is not going to grant amnesty unless he is lying. He has said no citizenship for all those he will deport. Find his interview on CNN he repeats twice “ no citizenship” I will send link to you later when I am on laptop too difficult to do with phone.

The confusion is his big beautiful door statement which is about work visas as we need them, but jobs for Americans first, no amnesty, no Touchback, no citizenship.

Did it really come in that?

The way you're thinking, no. It was a large, glossy post card, with a photoshopped manila envelope one one side (even the stamps and cancellation marks were part of the 'shop) with the other side again, a photoshop of an open envelope revealing the computer-generated 'report card'.

There was a television evangelist out of Dallas that used to send out a brochure that to the casual eye appeared to be an amateurish self-published mailing with ball point pen and sharpie writing all over it. Upon closer examination it was an expensively-produced direct mail marketing campaign. The union printer's imprimatur was all that gave it away!

Vinegar?

Vinegar?

Vinegar would be sweet compared to the swill dished up by some folk.

Now, get in line, put on your shoes, get on down to the caucus and vote, or we will post your name on the public square bill board, you worthless piece of non voting scum!

No one has done as much good for the conservative cause as Cruz.

What, exactly, has Cruz done for the conservative cause?

I can’t imagine them sending it out either. But Independent Review claims Cruz’s campaign confirmed it. And from what I can tell, IJReview been around for a while, and are reasonably respected.

And no, I don’t think Trump would stoop to sending something out in someone else’s name. If Cruz had denied it, my suspicion would fall on Rubio who is trying to climb into 2nd place.

“but the caucuses are important and we want people who haven’t voted before to vote.”

Well this will have them jumping over one another to get there.

Confirmed? If so, Cruz is no longer my candidate. Put me in the “undecided” column please.

Not sure I buy this story. That said, I have received this exact same mailer on the west coast, and people claim to have received this mailer from all over the country in previous election cycles, so this mailer is certainly not unique to whichever campaign actually sent it out.

I know it is public information, but how many people actually go and look up whether or not their neighbor’s voted?

Many people in this day and age do not even know their neighbors.

To put “Voting Violation,” which it is not, at the top of the mailer and to list your name and the names of your neighbors, with an “F” by their name, is beyond the pale.

I have not heard anything about this on the national radio or TV news this morning, but I bet the people of Iowa are going to talk about this mailer this weekend.

I can’t see how it helps Sen. Cruz.

This is an adaptation of old direct mail advertising gimmick that was conceived before the rise of social media. That’s why they didn’t anticipate the still-mounting blowback.

Good grief, who thought that was a good idea? I’d be stomping over to their local office and throwing a fit. I don’t know what it is about campaigns that make people do this moronic stuff. It’s like a sickness, there are always these kinds of idiotic ideas floating around that actually make it to the ground.

I think Trump should go easy on this, mention it, say it is bad but leave it alone, voters wont need help figuring out it is wrong. If Trump goes ballistic about it he will look like he is just piling on. No, just say it is wrong, shake his head and move on to issues, Trump can use some statesmanship ( and I don’t mean political correctness or being a GOPee wimp).

Mailing a person’s personal voting history to his/her closest neighbors is not tough love. It is a manipulative and jerkish attempt to intimidate a person. It might have worked on Obama’s herd mentality voters, but it will blow up monumentally with IA Republicans.
