Mike Huckabee with his wife Janet, left, before an event in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Wednesday.
In an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday morning, Mr. Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said that he had heard from other candidates “proactively” about attending the event that Mr. Trump will hold at Drake University at the same time as the debate.
Mr. Trump announced on Tuesday afternoon that he would skip the final debate before the Iowa caucuses, after Fox News officials issued a mocking statement about him following a day of escalating attacks. Mr. Trump had earlier said he would participate only if the moderator Megyn Kelly, with whom he clashed at the first G.O.P. debate last August, was removed.

Why? Do you really think the “activists” are going to give Cruz a pass. They are going to set him up. If I were Ted Cruz, there is no way I would show up. FOX would rather hilarious win than an any of the Repubicans.
Where is the RNC protecting Republicans? How and why did they allow this? They are so stupid. Well Trump will fire their silly asses about 15 seconds after he is sworn in. He will clean shop of the deadwood real quick.
I’m not a Fox News supporter, but the other networks are worse, especially CNBC. At that debate, Cruz handled the mods very well, and even got some of the other candidates to speak up to them.
Ted Cruz is a LEADER, and led the leader wannabees in the CNBC debate.
O’REILLY was acting really guilty with last night.

BOR was pasty-faced and did not look well. Something was definitely bothering him. Watching him beg wasn’t pretty either.
The other candidates just have to figure out which will get better ratings, Fox’s “debate” or Trumps charity event.
So the candidates that Trump mocks constantly, the ones polling in the low single digits, might wander over to the Trumpathon? Why? To be mocked some more?
If you are still polling at 3% or less this late in the game, you aren’t really another candidate, you are just trolling for a cabinet position.
It is amazing to me how so many of those trying to stop Trump repeatedly engage in actions that actually help him. And I say that as so.eone who doesn't even like the guy.
The two mentioned are Huckabee and Santorum.
A Trump/Santorum ticket would definitely put Pennsylvania in play.
And BO didn’t know weather to sh*t or ride a bicycle. Begged him several times. Trump has emasculated FNC. Go Mr Trump!!
The debates remind me of the movie, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?
Santorum is too lightweight for a Trump ticket and besides- he lost
Trump doesn’t respect losers
Someone yesterday mentioned what might happen if Rubio joined Trump’s event - VP
However not at all confident Marco has the cajones to buck the Establishment and join the insurgency
It was probably penned by the mole. As another freeper pointed out, it gave Donald an escape route.
Santorum, iirc, was runner-up to Romney last time around, and he did it on a shoestring budget.
Honestly, though, Rubio keeps the republicans on their same path to victory through Florida and Ohio.
Pennsylvania, though, is intriguing and would change the game. VPs, in my opinion, should be chosen on the basis of demographics gained or electoral votes gained. Ideally, that would also include ideological purity, but that’s not always the case as with Reagan/Bush.
The idea is to WIN.
This time around, I’m not being diverted from that focus. That’s not to say you’re wrong about Rubio, but when I look across the spectrum of those who would make good VP mates, AND bring either a demographic OR a state that ALREADY isn’t in play OR that is Purple, then Rubio is in there, but so is Santorum. Huckabee not so much, although Arkansas could be in play due to the Clinton machine in that state.
Cruz: Texas is a very red, Hispanics
**Rubio: Florida a purple state, Hispanics
*Fiorina: California is a deep blue state, Females
Bush: Florida is Purple, Amnesty pimps
*Kasich: Ohio is Purple, Intellectual WASP nerds
Paul: Kentucky is very Red, Libertarian white guys
**Carson: Maryland, Michigan; Blacks
*Santorum: Pennsylvania is light blue; Italian Catholics
Gilmore: Virginia is purple; WASPs
Christie: New Jersey is light blue; Homosexual advocates
*Huckabee: Arkansas is light red; Evangelicals
Asterisks designate those with VP potential as we measure the drapes a bit too early
Tennessee bright red: Christians
Does it have to be one of the also rans? I prefer Allen West.
I just don't see any energy now in Santorum, I think his ship sailed
His political career is stale and he will always be tied to Arlen Specter and K street to lukewarm bucket of spit conservatives
Trump needs a VP who is NOT an outsider and who has some creds as a political leader. Marco is a young inexperienced weak and flawed man but I think he could fill a Trump ticket by ticking off the “ successfully elected” politician’ box , the youth box, the ‘ state with a big electoral vote’ box, the ethnic minority box, and the “ charisma” box ( yes a pretty face makes a difference, esp when juxtaposed with Sanders or Cankles)
Didn’t Allen West lose his seat? Regardless of why, Trump won’t pick a political loser for #2
But Allen West might make a terrific VA secretary
“what if they had debate and nobody came?”
Either that or the candidates, or most of them, walk off the stage in view of the questions from the ‘guests’ e.g. muslim, latino, and I heard Bernie Sanders is going to be allowed to ask questions. Isn’t that rich????
What state is West? N. Carolina?
