Trump's standard line when he is about to storm out of a media event because he doesn't like how it covers him is that he is going to go host an event to raise money for veterans. Thus it was no surprise when he announced that he would be skipping the FoxNews event to hold a separate event to raise money for.... well, "veterans," generally. Of course, Trump did not name a specific charity so that his feet might be held to the fire on this, just "veterans," generally.
Well, there are two small problems. The main veterans group that Trump has used for publicity stunts in the past, the Wounded Warrior Project, was the subject of a scathing CBS report and recently lost their tax exempt status. Besides, if Trump is planning on using them, he hasn't told anyone from the group. Per CNN, the Wounded Warrior Project has not even been contacted by Trump about possibly doing an event tomorrow.
If he is doing it for some other group, they are now lining up to say that they don't want any money Trump might make off of promoting himself, and will reject it if offered.
>>>Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder Paul Rieckhoff tweeted Wednesday that he would decline any contributions that came from the event, which Trump has proposed in place of his attending Fox News' debate this week.
"If offered, @IAVA will decline donations from Trump's event. We need strong policies from candidates, not to be used for political stunts," he said.
* * *
Two other veterans' groups also distanced themselves from Trump's announcement.
The Wounded Warrior Project said it was not aware of the candidate conducting any fundraising efforts on its behalf.
Meanwhile, VoteVets.org, which calls itself the nation's largest progressive veterans group, issued a statement titled: "Don't hide from Megyn Kelly behind us."<<<<
Trump has tried to tie fundraising for veterans with debates in the past. He said he had considered skipping CNN debates in September and December unless the network donated to veterans' groups.
Vote Vets is of course a lefty group, but the other two announcements are telling. Money is money, and if groups are pre-emptively declining it, that's a pretty good indication of just how tired of Donald Trump's crap the vast majority of the country is getting.
Of course, all of this assumes that Trump had any plans of giving the money to Veterans in the first place, as opposed to just saying that he was going to so that his temper tantrum would look more noble.
Thanks to our commenter TNGal for finding this story.
“................As Emily Canal of Forbes reported in October: “The Donald J. Trump Foundation has donated $5.5 million to 298 charities between 2009 and 2013 (the most recent year available), according to the non-profit’s 990 tax forms from those years. Of that, only $57,000 has been donated to seven organizations that directly benefit military veterans or their families, Forbes found. Wounded Warriors was not among the organizations Trump’s foundation gave to in that time period.”
Some veterans say that the billionaire has been AWOL when it comes to helping veterans. “Donald Trump is not a leader in veterans’ philanthropy, unless he’s donated a lot of money that nobody knows about,” Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, told the New York Times in July. “We were founded in New York. We are headquartered in New York. I’ve been here 10 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever even seen Donald Trump.”.........
Wow, more that half of their 6M goes to salaries and employee benefits. Thats unbelievable. And they have the Chutzpah to turn down a legal donation.
Cincinnatus (519 to 430 BC) was a Roman aristocrat and statesman whose service as consul in 460 BC and dictator in 458 BC and 439 BC
Personal attacks have no place in these debates. They discredit you and your candidate.

Media that intentionally support are media that are prone to lie.
Breitbart does not support intentionally. There are plenty of Breitbart pieces on Trump that provide highly informative objective facts on Trump and much is positive by process, not by design.
There are plenty of raw unfiltered internet videos of Trump. There is no need to ‘find’ articles in support of Trump.
I never read ‘articles’ directly. I see them indirectly through FR and provide comment and information backing the comments.
I detest the national media even more than the GOP leadership. They do not deserve my direct reading.
Donât do drugs.
You?
No Mam'
That's WHY I asked you.
Some of your reasoning sure seems to lean in that direction.
Yep, a BS story the media can embrace.
I suggest you get a life.
WHO are YOU to judge anyone?
You're reasoning alone is enough for the average person to question your intentions. You may now get back your little merry-go-round.
God Bless your pointed little head.
So should I assume you agree with the ambush set up by a putative "news" organization aimed squarely at damaging one specific candidate? The inclusion of an illegal immigrant and a muslim apologist as "impartial" questioners?
I am not especially a Trump supporter, but I sure as heck support damaging the establishment and their media allies when the opportunity presents itself. Unlike others, I do not believe that the party is always right, nor that the media should be the story, as opposed to covering it.
Don't smoke.
Don't do drugs.

Drink moderately.
Don't smoke.
Don't do drugs.
Two out'a three ain't bad.
You argue in the same manner as those you protest.
You might want to think about that.

My comment was in response to VideoDoctor’s comment #9 (which someone removed) stating that I must be an alcoholic for posting articles critical of Trump.
Funny, I don't read it as running away; I read it as "Who needs YOU?"
This is the money statement for me. It's been too easy for politician's to "use" Vets for election votes and then toss them to the side later. Trump's pronouncement on skipping the debate to raise money for Vets stinks of that ruse....except from what I've seen reported, Mr Trump has donated money in the past to some Veterans causes.
That's what makes the offer of donating 1.5 million dollars to Veterans if Trump debates Cruz very interesting to me. Trump would get credit for raising money for the Vets and we could finally see the two of them interact without all the static of Rubio, Bush and the others (like Megyn Kelly). I haven't seen a response from Trump yet, have you?
I don’t know if Trump’s declined Cruz’s offer but I saw this while checking.
WOW. I haven't seen that. Heck, Trump could debate Carly tonight, make $2 million and then debate Cruz later for another $1.5 million.
So will Trump put his "time" where his mouth is and make some money for the Vets? We shall see......
This has been one VERY interesting campaign season so far.
And the Ooppah Pah bands are the best....... You cannot get a better venue than that right there......
Maybe so, but he does do things like this:
