Ted Cruz Super PACs Offer $1.5M for Veterans if Donald Trump Will Debate Him One-on-One In Iowa
Breitbart ^ | 1/27/2016 | Matthew Boyle

DES MOINES, Iowa - A pair of pro-Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Super PACs just offered $1.5 million for veterans if Donald Trump will debate Cruz one-on-one in Iowa before Sunday evening.

Keep The Promise I and Keep The Promise II offered up the sizable donation for America's veterans on Wednesday evening.

The principal donors of Keep the Promise I, the Mercer family, and Keep the Promise II, the Neugebauer family, in a joint statement released Wednesday evening said:

Senator Cruz and Mr. Trump both respect the veterans and hold them in the highest regard but Senator Cruz respects the process and we are calling on Mr. Trump to do the same and debates are the purest form of democracy. Iowans - and Americans - deserve to hear from the frontrunners in this 'two-man race' one last time. Not only would this be a heck of a debate, but it would also be a terrific opportunity to generate millions of dollars for the veterans.

The press release made clear the parameters of the pro-Cruz Super PACs' offer: The debate must be between just Trump and Cruz, must take place on or before Sunday Jan. 31 in Iowa, must be one-hour long, and the candidates can pick a jointly-agreed-to moderator themselves.

Wasn't mentioned in the first 10 posts or so. Before saying this ... I am for Trump, and this is a little desperate ... but remember ... Trump did the same thing to Obama -> 5 MIllion to produce whatever it was having to do w/Birth Certificate. Not sure if Cruz campaign had that in mind, and I don't really have any deeper analysis, except to say - good for the goose, good for the gander - since Trump called out O exactly this way - holding him hostage to the 'hey you could have done this for charity' offer.

I am for Trump - but desperate or not - this has a precedent, and that precedent is Trump himself.

Trump will just respond "Thank you for donating $1.5mil to the Wounded Warriors Project."

Then silence.

Fair point about the “for charity” angle.

I’d like to see ALL the candidates have to put up, say, a million to debate.
In fact that would be a great way to run the ‘political debates’. Like a ‘minimum’ for a poker game. And the candidates would all have to agree on ONE dealer (moderator).

It's a good idea. Win-win for both candidates and the Veterans. Anyone who objects to this is just playing politics, in my opinion.

Exactly, Trump has been on both sides of every issue, he is old enough to say that both Dems and Repub are copying him at one time in his life or another.

Trump silent? He has been many things, just ask him, but silent has never been one of those things.

“Why doesn’t Trump just write a check for vets instead of holding a rally to raise (not give) money?”

Why doesn’t Cruz’s Super PAC just write a check for $1.5M to Vet Orgs WITHOUT the condition that Donald Trump MUST debate Cruz or they WON’T give the the vets the money?

TC lost me with this one. Sad, desperate, not a leadership move.

Thank you. Donald Trump would be a total idiot to make Ted Cruz relevant when he is the frontrunner and Cruz is going down in the polls.

Nice you find Vets to be funny when being used. Figure......either you are atheist or never stepped foot in the military......for you, probably both.

Trump needs to trade in the campaign hats with the recycled Reagan bumper sticker slogan for something more in character.

I thought it looked desperate. Ted looked nervous on Hannity

Cruz is becoming DESPERATE. If he loses Iowa, he will have a very tough time gaining any momentum.

Besides how can his Superpacs legally coordinate Cruz’s schedule of debate with Trump? I thought that was illegal?

Why? Trump is ahead by 10 points in Iowa.
What does he gain by this unnecessary debate?
Cruz needs the help, I understand that. But Trump
would be foolish to help Cruz against himself.

There have been too many debates as is. There are far better ways of getting your message out than a boring debate. You would think 5 losses about to become 6 would be enough for Ted?

Pray America wakes

Why is your guy so scared to debate a “loser” one on one?

It’s easy to snipe when you’re one of 7 on the stage. But when there’s only two on the stage, viewers quickly discover who understands the issues important to conservatives and who’s full of BS.

Nothing funny about Vets being used, naps.
What’s funny is that you leveled that accusation against Cruz.
Some folks could say that about Trump, too, in the context of this thread.
Not me, though. I got nothin’.
At this point I don’t care anymore who gets the nom. I’m sick of Trump AND Cruz—bums, both of them— the circular firing squad, the vitriol. I’ll be holding my nose and going Eeny Meeny Miney Mo. What-Everrrr!
My candidate was Bobby Jindal—the only real conservative in the race.

Never served in the military—I’m a girl—but six in my family have, in four wars. FYI.
Good night and God bless.

Look people. Those two are talking, don’t think they are not. I would if I was them. Personally I think Trump is handling the media and Cruz is just sitting back and watching the master at work. Cruz will never ever abandon his principles and Trump just wants his Country back. And I for one thank God for both of them. It’s about time.

Because like the Megyn Kelly line, the money for Vets line is cover for Trump to duck and run until voting begins. Both explanations are b.s. But b.s. is what used car salesmen like Trump sell.
