A day after the spokesperson for an armed militia occupying an Oregon wildlife refuge was shot and killed during a traffic stop, the county’s sheriff lamented “there doesn’t have to be bloodshed in our community†and said he was “disappointed†that the incident “ended badly.â€
“We all make choices in life,†an emotional Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward said during a Wednesday news conference. “Sometimes our choices go bad.â€

Robert “LaVoy†Finicum, 55, was killed during a traffic stop Tuesday in which protest leader Ammon Bundy, 40, and three others were also taken into custody, The Oregonian reported. Ammon Bundy’s brother, Ryan, was shot and wounded during the incident. Three other members of the group were taken in to custody separately.
The group had occupied the remote refuge for the better part of a month, protesting, they said, for ranchers’ rights. Ward said the militia’s methods were wrong.
“We don’t arm up and rebel,†he said. “We work through the appropriate channels. This can’t happen anymore. It can’t happen in America. And this can’t happen in Harney County.â€

From witness account,s the driver had pulled over, put both hands out the window- and the fbi shot into the car- miraculously missing everyone inside- the driver took off for fear of his and passenger’s lives- then pulled over again, and had hands in air when he was shot down (according to the witness)
Not sure how any of this was a ‘bad decision’ deserving of immediate death penalty?- They were on their way to meet with the sherrif- NOTHING these militiamen and women did warranted a deadly encounter- their takeover of the building was ‘peaceful’ - they weren’t threatening anyone- they never fired on anyone- and despite everyone In the car being armed- they never fired a shot despite 120 rounds being fired at them (according to witness)

The difference might be the overt armed nature of the group and their statements to go down with a fight.

There are so many ways this could have been done differently. An unarmed group driving cattle through public lands around the West would have been an effective protest. There was a great protest 20 years ago in Maryland where some people drove their pickup trucks around the capital building with porta-potties in the pickup beds.

With ALL the time the Feds had setting up the ambush site, and with ALL the hullabaloo lately from blacks about body cams for cops, and ALL the advance warning and planning time in Oregon, the Feds should have NO trouble turning over video of the so-called “shoot-out” that supports their narrative. If they DO NOT (or CANNOT) produce the video, that constitutes PRIMA FACIE evidence of Federal culpability in murder. Q.E.D.
