Growing up, Bernie Sanders followed the path of many young American Jews. He went to Hebrew school, was bar mitzvahed and traveled to Israel to work on a kibbutz.
But as an adult, Sanders drifted away from Jewish customs. And as his bid for the White House gains momentum, he has the chance to make history. Not just as the first Jewish president â but as one of the few modern presidents to present himself as not religious.
"I am not actively involved with organized religion," Sanders said in a recent interview.
Sanders said he believes in God, though not necessarily in a traditional manner.
"I think everyone believes in God in their own ways," he said. "To me, it means that all of us are connected, all of life is connected, and that we are all tied together."
Sanders's religious views, which he has rarely discussed, set him apart from the norm in modern American politics, in which voters have come to expect candidates from both parties to hold traditional views about God and to speak about their faith journeys.

Wow. Was he ever bar mitzvahed?
Interesting development..
Not that ones religion should matter , eh?
“... all of life is connected, and that we are all tied together.”
Okay, Bernie.
What does THAT mean?
DOOHHH!!!
Like hell. Here is Sanders' Savior:
Hopefully somebody gets to Bernie to teach him about 2 Corinthians.
DOOHHH!!!

I wonder if he went to Hebrew school.
You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.
1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
—John, 15
Nothing much.
“I think everyone believes in God in their own ways,” he said. “To me, it means that all of us are connected, all of life is connected, and that we are all tied together.” Sanders’s religious views, which he has rarely discussed...
...sounds an awful lot like the plot line to the movie Avatar.
Yes.
I’m confident that a Sanders presidency would drive our national the ship into the rocks.
Think about it: Sanders believes we are all tied together.
Socialism believes that all people are equal in every respect.
It is socialism expressed in its simplest expression imo.
Oh, come on: 0bama is about as atheist as they come.
Both of them abandoned the Jewish religion for communism.
We will all be tied together
The Hebrew shul would probably never teach much of anything about the 2 Corinthians. And especially no jokes about when they walk into a bar....
Any organized religion is incompatible with full-blown socialist beliefs, as the state is the substitute for any God figure. For them, there is no Heaven, just as there is no Hell, the brief span here on earth is all we have.
Humanism is such an all-consuming belief system.
Selling your soul to Satan requires that you not take part in Judeo-Christian religious observances...just ask Saul Alinsky
