Those men weren’t conservatives...they were radicals and revolutionaries.

The conservatives were Tories.

With how obsessed Trump is with polls, can anyone imagine him not changing what he’s saying or doing if his poll numbers drop to try to get them back up again? I think Trump would be like a second-term Clinton, who basically did whatever the polls said was popular. But the media and left-wing activists are far more loud and liberal than then, which would probably force Trump to go further left to get his poll numbers up. Nevermind all the left-wingers embedded in government as advisors and such who would be influencing him. That’s why bedrock, core, conservative values are so important. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.

So that’s why Cruz has always been my guy. The consistency and believability is there. And he has proven that he’ll suffer through all the pain from the D.C. elites and the media that he has to in order to stick to his convictions.

They wanted to conserve self government and keep government limited. Conservatism of that type was considered radical at the time (and still is today).

You also have to remember that Trump is talking to the broader populace, not just self-identified conservatives. This kind of non in-depth, but common sense description of conservatism serves a positive purpose in that it helps to blunt some of the negative myths about conservatives that have become widely accepted in society at large.

The Democrat sitting on the fence that likes a lot of what Trump is saying but has grown up hearing how evil conservatives are, is being told by Trump that it’s not what everybody’s lead you to believe. It’s basically common sense and being responsible. That’s a pretty good first pass definition for someone who is unfamiliar with the more in depth philosophical roots of conservatism.

All modern countries are collapsing because of low birth rates. That creates a huge demand for immigrants to come in from both business and the government because an aging population not replacing itself with younger people is a recipe for economic disaster. There isn’t enough labor and there isn’t enough of a tax-base to fund entitlements.
...................................................
There you go, ENTITLEMENTS. ILLEGALS are DESTROYING our system of government. They are taken care of and GIVEN everything but not our vets. Why is the birth rate dropping? Because BOTH man and wife or partners have to work to sustain a household due to being overtaxed for the illegals. Young people have to WAIT to have children even when they want them because they are subsisting on meager jobs and afraid of losing them. Look the FACTS in the face! You are saying we need the illegals when it is the illegals who are destroying us!

You say “any republican can balance the budget” when NO republican has resisted the overwhelming financial irresponsibility of the Obama Administration so now we owe too many TRILLIONS, soon to pass the point of no return. There is a Republican House and a Republican Senate, but nothing hass been done to stop the insanity and you want to elect another politician who talks pretty fairy tales.

TRADE DEALS are packages in which we LOSE and more than a deficit in our trade balance, but we also lose SOVEREIGNTY. NAFTA for example. Mexico and Canada can tell us what we are allowed to do about the food we eat. Do you call us a sovereign nation when a neighbor state tells us what to do and what not to do about labeling the meat we eat?...and has a court back to it up, fining us billions?

One reason I like both Cruz and Trump is that neither supported by the Washington DC establishment.

The Washington DC establishment crowd is made up of both democrats and republicans. I would like to see the establishment purged from DC. It is really about our only hope.

Everyone’s definition of conservatism is different.

Then it wouldn't be able to be defined.

Sheesh.

I’ll grant that, but don’t we need/want more right now? Don’t we want someone who is going to follow that “little piece of paper” that tells us all who we are; who we’re supposed to be?

I couldn’t agree with you more. We have been failed by our own as well as the opposition.

But think to yourself, of the two who's starting to get the support of those same clowns we both despise? And why?
