"The ad is very misleading. In fact, it outright lies about a widow's home being bulldozed," Pierson tells Breitbart News in an exclusive interview. "When you look at the facts, there is a process in place for eminent domain which was followed in this instance. Ms. Coking ended up keeping her property for years, because Mr. Trump didn't purchase it, and it ended up saving him a fortune," Pierson adds. In 2014, 16 years after the court battle ended and several years after Coking moved to California, her grandson sold the house at auction for $530,000, far less than Trump was willing to pay her in the 1990s. One can put together a right of way very cheaply using tiered options, one for entering the agreement, one when the right of way is completed, and a third for when the option is exercised. With a system like that, the neighbors end up putting the screws to the holdout to gain that next tier. At that point, people start exploring land for speculative buys assembling rights of way, doing deals with Indians, etc WAY out in front of the project. Free enterprise distributes risk, just like fascism concentrates the rewards.
Eminent domain at the Federal level was for "forts, dock yards, arsenals, magazines, and other needful buildings." NOTHING ELSE.
Oh please. There is a vast difference between takings for the benefit of a private party and a Constitutional taking under the limitations of Article I: "forts, dock yards, arsenals, magazines, and other needful buildings."
That's what happens when you follow Trump's logic.
Cruz lied, deal with it.
The Cruz Zeppeline is bursting into flames; live with it.
Cruz LIES; actually, he LIES about a LOT of things.
Did Sarah attempt to have Trump do the presidential, OATH OF OFFICE?
Has Sarah EVER said that America should take in EVERYONE, as crazy Glenn has?
Is Sarah making money from endorsing Trump as Glenn is for throwing that rally for Ted? I doubt it!
Are you even aware that Jim Robinson thinks the Beck is a lunatic and slammed him here ?
Then shall we talk about Cruz’s parents abominable morals especially his father’s leaving his mother and Ted flat, and his TWO divorces?
Previously, most of the pro-Cruz posts have been heavy on the “but he’s a Christian!” theme. Now, after his ad has proven to be untrue things have toned down a bit.
I’ve never been for Cruz, but I did expect better from him.
“Trump used eminent domain in order to bulldoze a womanâs house.”
Trump didn’t. Atlantic City bureaucrats pulled the eminent domain because they wanted the taxes that would be generated by big business. All of this info is very easy to locate online.
Exactly right. Most of your examples relate to public use. Some people don’t understand that eminent domain is used all the time to build private businesses, developments, etc.
For example, some of us might live in housing developments that wouldn’t exist if not for eminent domain. We have no idea of what had gone on behind the scenes at the outset. Government entities grab private land all the time if the resultant use will generate more taxes.
Personally, I hate the idea of taking someone’s land to give it to another “someone” for their personal financial benefit — not for a school, airport, or something. But it’s life.
Casino gambling in Iowa started in my community a couple decades ago. 'Riverboat' gambling it was going to be, and only that. There was a big public debate over whether to make it legal, which I remember well. The opponent warned of many undesirable consequences, all of which the casino operators and developers denied. All have since come true. The casino operators and developers promised to build a wide variety of unrelated development. None of it has occurred. Only casinos and adjacent hotel convention complexes, to feed the casinos, have been built. The only promise they've kept, beyond feathering their own nest, is to give local governments a piece of their action. Ensuring those governments would collude with their interests as needed. Over time, as originally warned, the casinos gained enough power to change the rules and end the cruises on the river by they boats. If the marks couldn't come and go ad lib they couldn't get as much business. Over more time they gained enough power to shift their casinos off the riverfront to more profitable locations. Once we had three gambling boat casinos. Rock Island's (Ilinois jumped on Iowa's bandwagon) has already gone inland. Davenport's inland replacement in under construction. Bettendorf's already land based, with a big casino owned hotel, although along the river. But there is nothing else around it. The only benefits that lasted have been to the casino operators, the developers and the colluding local politicians.
Of course the casino operators and developers think their developments are worthwhile. THEY make money off them. The local politicians love them. THEY are given other people's money to spend without having to tax to collect it. Why should any of them care they're stealing someone's home through eminent domain? They don't care when they take your money, potentially your life savings, when weak willed people gamble and the math says the house can't lose. But it's a parasite and a zero sum game for the community. Especially now that it is so widespread that people don't have to travel far to gamble in casinos. Stealing private property for casino development is, economically, one of the worst conceivable uses for eminent domain. Most other private enterprises add something to the economy instead of just shifting dollars into different pockets. And trying to convert someone's home, against their will, into a parking lot for rich gambler's limos is flagrant enough to make even Trump supporters cringe. Hence all the trolls pleading "Trump didn't bulldoze, Cruz lied" Cruz didn't say Trump bulldozed, he said he colluded to try to bulldoze. That's true and that truth is cringeworthy. That Trump failed is no defense. That Trump supporters can't understand this, or understand yet don't care, on THIS board, is alarming.
Cheer up. In a couple of mos when its clear Trump will be the nominee you will be joining us pathetics to move on to the general election. :-)
Thanks..
Without eminent Domain, we could not live the lives we live.
Sidewalks, roads, hiways, bridges, dams for water/power sewers, power lines, natural gas lines, telephone lines, cable lines would not exist without eminent domain.
Great point.
Because of what you cited above, we now know that Beck is/was a super secret agent hired by Trump to destroy Cruz!
New Beck/Cruz Three $ bill?
Crazy Beck swearing in Ted Cruz as Faux President. Another critical Waterloo event!
You’d think, wouldn’t you? But no, if this ends up shaking out like that, I’ll be sitting this one out. I’ve never once voted for a liberal, and I won’t be starting now.
It was widely considered unconstitutional before Kelo came in 2004. That was widely considered the worst Supreme Court ruling since Roe at the time. And now we're to accept "it's life." Enjoy your nice warm baths, frogs.
And BTW, Kelo was argued as leading to generate more taxes, but resulted in none. And why should allegedly small government conservatives be encouraging more taxes in the first place? Starve the government beast!
True.
No Bible in that swearing-in ceremony. I guess Beck really is serious about the Marxist atheist thing.
