A HUMBLE SPIRIT
It's always surprising to me when someone, in an honest and unguarded moment, confides that God could never use THEM. They may keep up appearances most of the time, but, down deep, they just don't feel worthy. Have you ever felt that way? If so, you're in luck; God places a high value on humility! In fact, your sincere recognition of your own need may just be the key that opens the door to a deeper, more genuine and rewarding spirituality. Isaiah wrote, "For thus says the High and Holy One Who inhabits eternity, whose name IS Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a humble and contrite spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the spirit of the contrite.'" (57:15) And Jesus added, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3)
For a short history lesson to reinforce those references, consider the following words by another pilgrim who found a second chance: "There are many reasons why God shouldn't have called you. But don't worry. You're in good company: Moses stuttered. David's armor didn't fit. John Mark was rejected by Paul. Timothy had ulcers. Hosea's wife was a prostitute. Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning. Jacob was a liar. David had an affair. Solomon was too rich. Abraham was too old. David was too young. Peter was afraid of death. Lazarus was dead. John was self-righteous. Naomi was a widow. Paul was a murderer. So was Moses. Jonah ran from God. Miriam was a gossip. Gideon and Thomas both doubted. Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal. Elijah was burned out. John the Baptist was a loudmouth. Martha was a worry-wart. Mary was lazy. Samson had long hair. Noah got drunk. "Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse? So did Peter, Paul -- well, lots of folks did. "But God doesn't require a job interview. He doesn't hire and fire like most bosses because He's more our Father than our Boss. He doesn't look at financial gain or loss. He's not prejudiced or partial, not judging, grudging, sassy, or brassy, not deaf to our cry, not blind to our need. As much as we try, God's gifts are free. We could do wonderful things for wonderful people and still not be wonderful. Satan says, "You're not worthy." Jesus says, "So what? I AM." Satan looks back and sees our mistakes. God looks back and sees the cross. He doesn't calculate what you did in '78. It's not even on the record. Sure. There are lots of reasons why God shouldn't have called us. But if we are magically in love with Him, if we hunger for Him more than our next breath, He'll use us in spite of who we are, where we've been, or what we look like. I pray that, as believers, we will step out of our limitations into the unlimited nature of who God is. Then our passion for God and our passion to communicate Him will make short work of our limitations." No matter where you are in your journey today, or how you may have failed in the past, God loves you... and sees what may yet be. May you find hope, grace, a renewed vision, and treasures that don't disappoint.

Honoring God
January 24, 2016
[Jesus said,] "If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.
John 15:5
The church service was still in progress, and we had some visitors there that morning. The speaker was only halfway through his sermon when I noticed one of our visitors walking out. I was curious and concerned, so I walked out to talk with her.
"You're leaving so soon," I said, approaching her. "Is there a problem I can help with?" She was frank and forthright. "Yes," she said, "my problem is that sermon! I don't accept what the preacher is saying." He had said that no matter what we accomplish in life, the credit and praise belong to God. "At least," the woman moaned, "I deserve some credit for my achievements!"
I explained to her what the pastor meant. People do deserve recognition and appreciation for what they do. Yet even our gifts and talents are from God, so He gets the glory. Even Jesus, the Son of God, said, "The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing" (John 5:19). He told His followers, "Apart from me you can do nothing" (15:5).
We acknowledge the Lord as the one who helps us to accomplish everything.
Lord, let me not forget to acknowledge You for all that You do for me and enable me to do.
God's children do His will for His glory.
John 15 forms the middle section of Jesus's Upper Room Discourse--His final extended teaching time with His disciples before going to the cross. He focuses on our deep dependence upon Him by using the comparison of a vine and its branches (vv. 1-8). Then He describes His great love for us that should result in our love for one another (vv. 9-17), our identification with Him as opposed to this world (vv. 18-25), and the reassuring ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives (vv. 26-27). These words not only form strategic preparation for His disciples ahead of His suffering and death, they also speak of His ongoing love for and commitment to all His children.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to the MacNessa family.
Well, it looks like you still have electricity. Is it still snowing? Was John Man able to keep up with the driveway?

This morning, it was bitter cold and very windy,m and the sky looked like lead. The ocean was churning up huge waves that were leaving ice (salt water ice!) all over the sea wall and splashing onto my car as i drove down beside it. I went to my sister’s mobile home and worked on installing a floor till about two, and I saw the snow start to fall. Not having driven in snow for over 17 years, I drove straight home before it got “bad”.
Sis is still at the mobile home (near Cape Cod) and will probably have to spend the night sleeping on the new floor, as there is much too much snow out there now.
Sometimes “fear” is a good thing!

Nope...it’s very wet, sticking, and very deep, almost a foot, it seems, and the night is young.

One fell through, but there is another.
As soon as I have a P & S, I will make an offer on a cute little totally renovated manufactured home in the same community as my sister. I am helping her with lots of renovation work on hers, but the one I want is move-in ready.
Dogs and motorcycles and rock musicians accepted. It’s in a VERY nice section of MA, and I have even seen Cruz and Trump stickers on cars there...in Massachusetts!
