I think its amusing how the national media has been talking so much about this storm.

Yes its a huge storm. But I’ve been in equally bad storms in other parts of the country, which do not attract any attention from the national media.

Just saying, something which happens on the New York/Washington media axis, is magnified in news reports because of it happening where the media are headquartered.

I have been in early season Colorado snowfalls that make this look like flurries.

I'm up in Newtown, CT and I can't believe how hard it is snowing right now. The center of the storm is still down in the Chesapeake Bay right now. We may end up measuring this one in feet even here.

Most winter storms get hyped up for no good reason but this is the real deal. I'm getting the fire going in my fireplace and my generator is ready to go. I'm expecting to lose power later today or tonight.

Just what is unusual about a blizzard in NYC? It's winter for goodness' sake.

I know in just the last 10 years there have been East Coast snow storms of equal intensity, and no one went nuts.

This can only be a reflection of the political elites sucking as much juice from the "climate change" meme that they can. Without liberal/progressive attention, we are all doomed.

You are right-——and it’s insane.

I’m in MA and just laugh at the over-the-top news coverage.

A warning is nice, sure,so people can be prepared but this could be taken care of in regular, scheduled newscasts.

It’s like a comedy show IMHO-——shots of supermarket shelves, traffic jams.and idiots standing outside with a microphone in their hands.

Don’t you know that any storm that hits New York City and or Washington D C is always the “storm of the century”. Anything anywhere else is just a pittance.
Remember SUPER STORM SANDY? This will be remembered as SUPER BLIZZARD of 2016.

Lib gov’ner doesn’t think that people have common sense until he pontificates for them not to travel. Well gosh, if he didn’t say it imagine how many people would be out there driving.

Same here in Massachusetts. It has not started snowing here yet, and the weather site says we might get an inch or two. I have the shovels and snowblower at the ready, and it looks like I’ll only need the broom.

This is a rarity for us to see article after article about “east coast snow storm” and not be in the middle of it!

I hope this blizzard buries the entire East Coast (Washington, DC to Maine) for the next three weeks! About 20 feet of snow ought to do it coupled with -40 degrees below zero temperatures.

Good luck !

Best snow storm safety a family can have against the extreme cold is a plain old wood stove or even a fireplace as in your case. Second best safety is using your kitchen stove if gas and simple old style gas wall heaters..... if so always have 2 or more smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with new batteries before the storm.

We keep 90 days of canned goods, stews, soups and chili on the shelf and a dozen 6 gallon jerry jugs of potable water for general use as well as 12 cases of bottled water.

Bed tanks on the trucks are full and provide extra weight and we put tire chains on at least two of our 4x4’s if we MUST travel in the deep snow.

Whole house generator we have is plumbed to the natural gas line and powers entire home with no problem, power surges or not. A couple of honda commercial grade portable generators back the fixed unit up. As well each of our vehicles have power inverters installed if we really get in a fix.

10 face cords of hickory secured and dry around the property will get us thru the power outage, ice, snow or extreme cold weather we get here in the panhandle of texas each winter.

Again wish ya well.......stay safe !

"I think its amusing how the national media has been talking so much about this storm."

A month ago the media was all agog with the "freak heat wave" and that NY'ers were wearing shorts and sandals just days before Christmas. I live in central NY State, and we've had our share of snow storms here. We're in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Whether it's a freak heat wave, or a frigid day, I've seen people wearing pedal pushers and going sockless during the winter. It isn't all that rare anymore.
