Trump: When I get to Washington, I’m Going to Become Part of the Establishment so I can Make Deals With Democrats (VIDEO)

I am not making this up or exaggerating what Donald Trump said. These are his words and you can see the video for yourself. Via the Blaze, Trump literally says that when he gets to Washington he’s going to become an establishment politician so that he can get some really great, super huge, classy deals done.

Trumps point is that Reagan was able to get O’Neill to ‘reach across the aisle’ to him instead of the other way around. That was a good thing.

I am just extremely concerned that so many people are being fleeced. I’m having flashbacks to 08.

“...IN short, I see Trump making the “establishment” his establishment...”

Hey - whatever it takes to rationalize it to yourself, right?

I do not believe Trump will be a complete disaster AND I understand that negotiations are two-way streets.

But being reasonable and prudent, I expect the following: The dems will absolutely dig-in on any of their pet issues and can be fully expected to balk at Trumps immigration and border security agenda.

Can we at least agree on that *absolutely* reasonable expectation?

Now, Trump will have to work *with* congress as they are a co-equal branch of govt. Nothing becomes law until a bill lands on Trumps desk. No Bill will land on his desk until it escapes the committee tar-pit and passes both houses.

To get anything done, Trump will need bi-partisan support. There will be give and take. So here’s the multi-trillion dollar question that will impact you, me and generations to come: Has Trump said what, if anything, is *absolutely* off the negotiating table? If the dems balk on his agenda (and they most certainly will), what would Trump be willing to give up to get that deal done? What rights and principles would he allow (further) infringement upon, by legislation and/or executive policy? Assault rifle ban? Right to life? Personal property? Fairness doctrine? More “NYC-Values” justices like Sotomayor/Kagen for SCOTUS? The next term will see one to *three* justices replaced due to retirement/death - and those are for bloody *life* terms), etc...

I’d love to hear his list of things he will adamantly keep *well* off the table. My fear is that it is probably a darned *tiny* list. And not a single Trump supporter can say for sure because Trump sure hasn’t. All you have so far is a “gut feeling”. Should we trust the “gut feeling” of Trump’s “Cult of Personality”?

I really detest that way folks will take a quote and put their own spin on it, implyng that the spin is literal truth, when it is really the commentators attempt to use the quote inaccurately.

The same is common with headlines used to attract clicks. I often find the headline blatantly misrepresents the story.

Trump was being reasonable. He is at his heart a deal maker. He needs democrats to forge majorities, to get deals done.

The real issue is specifically which deals Trump would seek to make. Right now I trust that he would focus on the border, fair trade, the military, the budget and healthcare.

They don't want to hear this and don't care. Yet it is what he said.

If they believe he will do everything he says he will do on other issues because he said it, then it follows that he will do this as well.....There is no other way you can take this statement.

But Oh, well......Obama also told us what he was going to do, and he did it.

“I really detest that way folks will take a quote and put their own spin on it”

Then you must really dislike Donald Trump. There is a word for that - Hypocrisy.

Yep.

This link is just pitiable. If they’re writing headlines and stories putting words in people’s mouths instead of just linking to a simple video to back up their assertions, they’ve officially gone full liberal in their attack tactics. It’s one thing to write articles about why you don’t like Trump, but this is just pure fabrication. It might as well be a DailyKOS post. :/

Reagan worked with Conservative democrats to get his agenda through - not Tip O’Neill. Stop rewriting history to support your demigod.

so what happens, Ronald Reagan would get along with (Democrat) Tip O'Neill, and they'd sit down, and they'd make great deals for everybody

CLAIM: FALSE

Now before all the Trump supporters bash, you can go back in time to see that I have made this comment before not related to the 2016 election.

TIP O hated Reagan and Reagan, even for all his good manners, wrote in his diaries dislike of Tip (this opinion evolved). What Reagan did was BACK DOOR Tip and reach in to his caucus and pull out Yellow DOGS Democrats to his side. Thus the Reagan coalition. The narrative that Tip and Reagan worked together is a myth of Washington insiders to convince the people of the value of bi-partisanship. Yes, Tip did work with Reagan sometimes, but only to avoided utter embarrassment and to prevent the exodus of yellow dogs to the GOP (which ultimately happened in 1994 when Newt finished the work of Reagan).

As an interesting note, Reagan also wrote it was sometimes easier to get votes from Democrats than republicans. One of those Republicans we know was BOB DOLE, life long Beltway guy and recent Trump supporter.

Tip O’Neil was a conservative compared to dirty harry who is a socialist.

World of difference in the old Dixiecrat’s and today’s dems flaming socialist and communist. Or down right dictators like DUMBO.

Compromise does not mean giving in to the other side totally. Like Ryan does and No GONADS cry baby before him did.

I think he’s going to surprise us. He has the charisma of a great leader. Plus, if you do the right thing, the right things start happening, in life and in our country.

Charles Krauthammer talks in his book, about “Getting the Politics right first.” LOok at all the country now and throughout history where this was not the case.

North Korea, Iran, Cuba. The politics has squelched innovation, the arts, the good life. Instead people are in economic and cultural decay.

In our country you could say we haven’t had the politics right in 7 years, and the result is chaos and fear of the future here.

I think Trump to begin with, will get the politics right. I think he will run the country, like he runs his business.

I agree without a good majority in both Housed of Congress, it will not be as easy.

“Sounds like Trump will infiltrate the Establishment and destroy it from the inside.”

Psychoanalysis says you are projecting - Remember Perrot.

Turmp’s past is NOT all that important - keep saying that to yourself

Can’t say they weren’t warned.

Trouble is, performance in office won’t matter either, so he would have a broad coalition of liberals and supporters to push through all kinds of non-partisan agreements.

Reagan did meet often with O’Neal and they did move forward on key pieces of certain pieces of legislation together. Both respected the other enough to deliver their share of the votes. The Dems reneged on their spending promises but Reagan and O’Neil did work together.

The National Chamber of Commerce and Priebus run the RNC. Ryan is Priebus’ golden boy. As the chair of the Wisconsin GOP he pushed Ryan and ensured his selection as running mate to Romney. Setting up Ryan for the Presidency when it was his turn. Walker was Priebus’ candidate for governor and after Romney lost he put Walker up for President for practice while giving Jeb! His turn to run and letting Rubio become VP.

Ryan was maneuverd into the Speaker slot. Everything was great except Trump threw a monkey wrench into the works. Cruz would have been a sacrificial “conservative”. Trump is not bought sold or controlled. If he wins he picks the GOP chair and runs the apparatus. The old GOPe will be damaged much as when Reagan was President.
