Trump leads Cruz by 14 points in national poll [Trump's "Canadian?" gambit a big flop]

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a 14-point edge over Sen. Ted Cruz, his nearest rival, according to a new national poll.

Trump garners 34 percent support in the Fox News poll released Friday, with Cruz at 20 percent.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) ranks third with 11 percent, followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 8 percent. Former Forida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich tie for fifth with 4 percent apiece.

The poll also found that Cruz and Trump are the most popular second choice for likely Republican primary voters. Cruz is the second choice for 22 percent, while Trump is for 13 percent.

The survey found that voters are unconcerned with questions about Cruz's eligibility for the presidency.

Only 10 percent say the fact that Cruz was born in Canada makes it less likely they'll vote for him, while 88 percent said it would not affect their choice.

And 61 percent say he is natural-born American, with 27 disagreeing.

Cruz and Trump are battling for a lead in the early-voting state of Iowa, just 10 days away from the caucuses.

While Trump has double-digit leads in most national polls, he is ahead of Cruz by just 2.6 percent in Iowa, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.

The 61% that think Ted is a NBC are going to get an education as soon as the dems drop a lawsuit on him. The electorate is going to have to put down their cheeseburgers and pay attention..for once.

I already resent Cruz for putting us thru the storm that is certainly coming..we as a nation, do not deserve this. He needs to step up, or step aside.

I’d like to see the media ask Cruz’ mother if she applied for a CRBA for Ted. At the time of birth, Cruz was not eligible for dual citizenship. The law was changed 7 years after birth. How could he have dual citizenship until about 15 months ago when he renounced his Canadian citizenship?

Cruz will not release his records. Where is his CRBA? Where is his passport? You have to register with the American consulate to claim your citizenship when you are born abroad.

And it looks like the facts are that Trump leads Cruz by double digits in essentially every national poll. Wishful thinking notwithstanding, there has never been a candidate that has overcome that sort of disadvantage to win the nom.

The fat lady is clearing her throat and humming a few bars.

Spot On..Cruz is displaying the same arrogance and contempt for the voters as did Buckwheat during his campaign. Seal the records and give the voters the bird..what a man. Cruz is cut from the same unqualified cloth as obama..pathetic.

that’s cowardly.

“And 61 percent say he is natural-born American, with 27 disagreeing.”

So 27% disagreeing that Cruz is a “natural-born American is not a problem? Wow! Personally, I don’t think it has been conclusively decided one way or the other, but 27% thinking he is not natural born seems like a very bad thing. It seems like if just 5% of the electorate thought that Obama was not “natural born” he probably would not have been elected. It is surprising to me that 27% of the people even know he was born in Canada let alone his citizenship status at birth.

I agree about the CRBA. He should release it. Canadian law was going through changes at the time as they transitioned from their relationship with the UK.

What I am interested in is actual dates. I’ve read that Cruz Senior went to Canada in 1969, Cruz was born in 1970, and they left Canada in 1975. I want a link to something that shows when Senior actually filed for Canadian citizenship and then actually received it.

Some say the NBC section in the Constitution is archaic and shouldn’t affect us as it did the colonials since they were attempting to keep Tories out of office due to bad feelings after the war.

For me the loyalty to nation principle is still applicable. I would make it more stringent. I’d require 3rd generation citizens only can run for POTUS if I could amend the constitution.

AT least Buckwheat was smart enough to say he was born on American soil.

It should have mattered. Our leaders betrayed us.

Problem is, whether ____ is a natural born citizen is not decided by popular vote

Wasn't Obama's eligibility, de facto, decided by his popular vote wins, not just in the general election but in multiple state primaries and caucuses? With one (alleged) parent undisputedly foreign, the other legally too young to transmit citizenship on her own right and the only evidence for US birth forged there is no de jure positive evidence for Obama even being a citizen. The only possible evidence would be coming up with a real US birth certificate or admitting Frank Marshall Davis as his father. Yet birther Trump didn't sue.

Fox News is severely math challenged. 10% is a SMALL number?! They must be common core students.

If 10% of (R) are NOT willing to vote for Cruz, then you know some larger number of (D) will have the same opinion. He would likely gather no (D) crossover votes and that is simply fatal.

Last time with Dumbo and Romney it was just a 3.9% difference in popular vote. Since the election plays out on state by state electoral maps in just 12 swing states, that 10% is a huge number that will keep close purple states in the "blue" column.

Clueless people everywhere. We could still lose this thing even with the wind at our back. 10% is anything but insignificant.

Cruz ought to try putting this behind him by asking Congress to vote a resolution like they did with McCain.

Yes, I’m one of them - too risky to go for Cruz, what if SCOTUS rules against him right before the election?

You Walker supporters don’t think a few moves ahead. You are playing checkers while the Establishment is playing Chess. Don’t let the media lead you around by headlines.

The DNC along with the Republican Establishment will shop a federal judge to disqualify Cruz.

At that point the Delegates would vote on who would be the nominee. Karl Rove is already working that angle so it would be an Establishment candidate like Jeb, Rubio or maybe even Romney again.

Oops, I meant to add, Senators already told him to pound sand.

Next stop Supreme Court.
