Yes, that’s encouraging.

And the long range forecast for the rest of the winter is very manageable. Very seasonal, which is surprisingly mild considering what we’ve come to expect from NY winters.

Just wondering; as this is an ongoing event, would it be possible to leave it on the sidebar for the next 12 hours or so ?

Thanks,

Brian

It’s been interesting here in South Jersey/Burlington County (right on the line of Camden County).

Started snowing last night and continued all day today (still snowing). High winds during the night and most of the day but pretty good right now. We woke up to snow drifts (half our yard towards the house, couldn’t even open the door to get outside but other half of yard was ok).

My husband went out this morning and shoveled and “snow blowed” for 4 hours, doing our driveway and next door neighbor widow’s driveway - we store her snowblower and do her drive and sidewalk. He came in sore and proceeded to vomit and has been in bed since then. We sent the 3 of our 4 daughters out to continue shoveling out the cars on the street and the driveway and neighbor’s drive. They were out for about 2 hours.

Our township treated our roads starting Wednesday, again Thursday and Friday, and plows have been coming through every 8 hours or so. I haven’t seen a car drive down our street since about 8 this morning.

One daughter went to her boyfriend’s house (parent’s house about 2 miles from here) last night and probably won’t be home until Monday, maybe tomorrow night if we don’t get much more snow. Another’s boyfriend walked here a couple of hours ago.

We haven’t lost power yet (although some in our town have) so watching movies, etc. I just finished my lesson plans for the week and printed all the needed materials. Made Pastina soup and grilled cheese for lunch and making tacos and spanish rice for dinner in about a half hour.

I watched some videos of OC and Wildwood and Margate and seems they are getting hammered with flooding.

Glad to see you’re doing ok as well.

Yes, please put this live thread back on the sidebar. I just looked outside my window (inside the DC beltway) and snow is still coming down. Here is a good link showing the actual active snow map.

And here is the wider map showing the storm from Virginia through Massachusetts. This storm is not over for a whole lot of people who might want to check in. So please put it back up as Breaking News.

If you have not already done so, you might want to call your doctor or local ER and discuss the vomiting. Also make sure your husband is not dehydrated. Give warm water, and perhaps make some broth with chicken and vegetables to restore electrolytes. In fact if you have any rehydration solution or Gatorade type liquid, that would be good. They had a report this morning from a doctor saying it was a bad idea to have two cups of coffee and then go out and dig because dehydration was likely.

I am presently texting with someone stuck on I70/ Pennsylvania turnpike... Bus of children and chaperons returning back to MO after attending the ‘LIFE’ events in WDC.

They have been stuck for hours... They have dug out the bus and thinking of attempting to move to next exit to find food. That is IF they can get past stuck vehicles on the road. NO help .... I do not want to waste their cell phone so am limiting texting.

How is your husband doing? Still in bed and vomiting?

You need to watch him closely. Not to be an alarmist but sometimes vomiting can be more than just a stomach bug, especially after physical exertion.

Yes, typically 40 below is too cold to support moisture, but it does happen. Most blizzards there does not have to be fresh snowfall. Snow drifts tend to pile up on the negative pressure side of buildings, fences, trees, etc. When the wind changes direction, the snow drifts become airborne again and reform elsewhere. Typically these are ground blizzards that can be only a foot off the ground, or 2 or 3 feet high. With the Alberta Clippers that go on for days, it all gets worked up into a very fine powder creating the zero visibility.

Thank you, gleeaikin. He doesn’t drink coffee or anything with caffeine usually and hadn’t had anything but water and eggs for breakfast. I gave him hot tea with honey when he came inside just to warm up. Then about an hour later he vomited like crazy. He’s doing ok right now and hasn’t eaten but giving sips of water. He’s hydrated (so far). He refuses to eat the pastina soup or anything right now. He wants OJ but I’m not sure that’s a good idea?

I googled after the vomiting and saw it is one of the symptoms of heart issues/attack given the exertion of shoveling all that snow. He’s fit and active but has been on high blood pressure medicine since he was 25.

Thanks, ladyjane. He’s still in bed but no vomiting now. He’s drinking water.

You’re not an alarmist. I was worried while he was shoveling no matter how fit he is and more so after he came in, totally done because he couldn’t do anymore. Then once he started vomiting I knew something wasn’t right. Before he vomited he finally caved and asked the girls to finish.

He’s been on high blood pressure medicine for over 25 years, since he was 25 so I worry about that.

Again, I don’t want to sound like an alarmist but certain kinds of heart issues begin with vomiting. Watch him closely. Look for any other signs, pain, feeling of pressure, etc. Better yet, you might want to speak with his doctor who knows his history.

There have been some stomach bugs around recently. They come on suddenly. Odds are that’s what it is but better safe than sorry.

JFK just set its all time snowfall record for one storm. 27.7 inches and still coming down. This snow event will change the local weather for weeks to come. Will check out radar.
